Links Are Go!
by Lukas Kendall
Today's column is a notice. But, not a mere boring notice, this is a very useful notice. If you click on our links page,
you will find it has been enlarged by, most likely, 2000%. We got everything now.
The person to thank for this effort is Stefanie Sellars, who scoured the Internet to provide you, the readers, with the
A-1 compendium of film music links. So, go nuts.
So that this column is not totally a promotional tool, Andy Dursin brings us this quick news flash:
"John Williams was interviewed in the Boston Herald on Friday (8/15). He said he concluded recording Seven
Years in Tibet last week; it's a "romantic" score designed for Yo-Yo Ma in the same way that Schindler's List was
written as a vehicle for Izthak Perlman. The movie is due October 8th. Williams also said that he has written about
25 minutes of the Amistad score; he has to write 90 minutes by the deadline (October 1st), so apparently he's
"rushing" to get it done. (Rushing in Williams' mind means a lot longer preparation than other situations, I guess)."
I'll also leave everyone with Sony Classical's run-down of CDs forthcoming for the rest of the year:
September 30: Seven Years in Tibet (John Williams; Yo Yo Ma, cello).
October 14: Mister Kamen's Opus, a new recording of Michael Kamen's film themes conducted by the
composer.
October 28: Liberty! (PBS documentary, Mark O'Connor, Richard Einhorn, James Taylor, Yo Yo Ma,
Nashville Symphony).
November 18: Titanic (James Horner).
December: The Red Violin (John Corigliano; Joshua Bell, violin).
Tomorrow: A response to Jeff Bond's westerns piece from last Thursday, and Jeff's additional thrilling comments.
(It's the reason they're putting seat belts in theaters this summer!)
