Happy Columbus Day
by Lukas Kendall
Today is Columbus Day. This means, first of all, there's no mail. It
also means many of you are probably at home today, and will check this
column tomorrow or at some other point. (For you folks who happen not to
live in the U.S., Columbus Day gives everyone the day off because car dealers
need to sell automobiles. No wait, that's President's Day.)
Instead of a column today, I had an idea. Right now, pathetically on
Sunday night, I am at the office, but when I go home I am going to grab
five CDs from my collection which I used to love, but which I have not
listened to for at least a year. I have already decided what two of them
will be: Peter Gunn (Mancini) and Star Trek: The Next Generation:
The Best of Both Worlds (Ron Jones). I used to listen to this Star
Trek CD so much that the disc now falls out of the jewel box--the plastic
spokes have been loosened that much. That summer where we had to wait to
find out what happened to Picard... oh man was I hooked. When I finally
got the CD in the mail I couldn't believe it, I wanted to hear that music
so much.
In any case, I loved that CD so much but I probably haven't heard it
for a year, I got so sick of it after a while. But now I'm going to pop
it on again, along with three other things I used to love, and we'll see
what they are. I'll really have to look at the CD racks to decide.
I think all of you should do this too. Put your picks on our message
board.
One last thing before I take off:
Would you be interested in buying a CD-ROM of this web site? Our trusty
webmaster has suggested that he can burn CDs of this site, so that you
could read all the articles and stored Film Score Daily columns without
having to wait forever for them to load. It would cost $15, plus shipping.
I think it's a neat idea, but only want to take the trouble to do it (we'll
have to customize a few things) if people really want it.
Fill out the poll on the home page, if you can, it would help us a lot.
Thanks! And remember: five CDs you used to love but haven't listened to
forever, for whatever reason. I know I can't be the only person who has
a date with the Spies Like Us CD...
