Film Score Thanksgiving 11/25/99

by Lukas Kendall

Happy Turkey Day! Here's some news for those of you spending the holiday by looking at websites.

Check out HBO's RKO 281, about the making of Citizen Kane, for a scene with an actor playing Bernard Herrmann (who doesn't look much like the real Herrmann) conducting the orchestra.

The new Hammer CD is out and it has music for the three Hammer Quatermass films: The Quatermass Xperiment (The Creeping Unknown), Quatermass 2 (Enemy From Space), and Quatermass And The Pit (Five Million Years To Earth). Exclusive U.S. distribution is by www.scarletstreet.com.

Herrmann Website Update

Here's some news from Kurt George Gjerde of the Bernard Herrmann Web Pages:

The Bernard Herrmann Web Pages (www.bernardherrmann.org) had a complete overhaul some weeks ago. New items include:

Interview with Harold Moores (70's friend of BH)

London Photo Tour (also New York Photo Tour from earlier this year)

30 minutes of music from CBS radio & TV (cleared with CBS, of course)

Interview with Varese's cover painter Matthew Peak + gallery of his paintings (also non-Herrmann), some without type. ('co-project' with Townson at Varese).

The site also now has its own message board, "Talking Herrmann", which has really hit it off (can't compare to the FSM board, though).
