FSM Annual Poll Last Chance
by Lukas Kendall
Every year, Film Score Monthly turns to you, dear reader, to
help put the past year in perspective (or in its place!). We print this
poll in the hardcopy magazine, but this year, the magazine reached some
people so close to the stated deadline that it reduced the responses.
So, if you missed it, here's the poll. Please clip into an email (or
somehow copy the order of the info) and send right away to Jeff Bond at
Jbond@filmscoremonthly.com.
Extended deadline: NOW!
Hall of Fame Awards
1 Best New Score. Pick the five best scores to 1999 movies, numbered
1-5 (we weight the votes). Do not pick more than five; non-1999 movies
will be ignored.
2 Oscar Guesses. Pick the score you think will win the Oscar for Best
Score; this is not necessarily your favorite score, but the one you think
will win. When we first published this poll, we didn't know the nominees,
but we do now, so here they are: Angela's Ashes, The Cider House Rules,
The Talented Mr. Ripley, American Beauty, The Red Violin.
3 Best Composers. Not the best of all time, but the ones who had the
best output in 1999. Pick three, rank them.
4 Best Unreleased Score (1999 only).
5 Best Record Label (1999 only). Pick one.
6 Best New Album of Older Score (i.e., reissue). Pick five, rank. Can
be original recording or re-recording.
7 Best New Compilation. Can be either original tracks or newly recorded.
If it has three or more movies on it, it's a compilation. Pick three (albums,
that is).
Hall of Shame Awards
Pick as many as you want for these, although 1-3 each is fine. Many
readers find this annual exercise to be in questionable taste; we call
them "worst readers." Just kidding. Feel free to abstain.
8 Worst (or, Most Disappointing) New Score.
9 Worst Composer (1999 only).
10 Worst Record Label (1999 only).
FSM Self-Reflection Awards
11 Best FSM Article, Interview, or Feature. (What would you like to
see more of?)
12 Worst FSM Article, Interview, etc. (What would you like to see less
of?)
13 Best Writer (explanation optional).
14 Best Cover.
15 Creative Essay Question (optional). Feel free to make up your own
categories and mention whatever you'd like (faves, peeves, trends, etc.),
but keep it concise.
Once again, send via email to: jbond@filmscoremonthly.com.
