On This Day Right Now
by Lukas Kendall
The bad news is that, as happens around once a year, I blew it in getting
a new column up on this site for today. The good news is that the reason
I've been so busy -- and away from the office -- is because I've been working
on a new slate of fantastic FSM CDs. Basically this means staying home
with videotapes and DATs making sure every last note is accounted for and
correctly placed.
We haven't done a Golden Age Classic CD since All
About Eve late last year, so much of the present work is to get some
more Golden Age discs produced. But there are some great Silver Age titles
coming up too. In fact... we just may release one of each a month later
this year, and see if you wonderful collectors still bite at having more
goodies to buy. If you want to send us an email to encourage us to do this,
please don't be shy!
OK, I'm vamping. I heard the Classic Star Trek segments of GNP/Crescendo's
new Best of Star Trek collection and as always I consider it a miracle
that we can hear any more of this wonderful music. "What Are Little
Girls Made Of?" has one of the all-time great Fred Steiner licks and
it's awesome to have it on CD. Must... have... more... Classic Trek
music!
However -- and I think I mention this once a year too -- if you're a
fan of George Duning's music for Trek like "Metamorphosis,"
seek out the MCA CD of his score to Picnic. It's even a budget issue,
or at least it was when I bought it. It has gorgeous writing along the
lines of Duning's Trek love themes.
Back tomorrow with a real column!
