Mail Bag 5/30/00
Compiled by Lukas Kendall
English readers, mark your calendars: The very recent Tribute to Elizabeth
Taylor in London at which John Barry peformed for 13 minutes towards the
end (he conducted Goldfinger, the James Bond Theme, Body Heat
and Diamonds Are Forever) will be televised by Sky Premier on Jun
4, 8-10PM.
I hope our U.S. readers had a nice holiday weekend. Here are the latest
treasures we discovered in our electronic mail bag:
Marco Polo
From: John, Ranger7774@aol.com
I want to thank John Morgan, Bill Stromberg, Preston Neal Jones
and all the others for their fine work on the Salter Ghost of Frankenstein
CD just out on Marco Polo. It's very very good. The selection of the additional
cues of Salter from other films was good too. I recognized them all from
previous recordings but the sound was excellent. My favorite cue of all
on the CD was "Electro-Biology" from Man Made Monster. Very well
performed by the Slovak Orchestra. Good job, all the way around.
Trailer Question
From: "David A. Conner" <connerny@netscape.net>
What do Patch Adams, Mulan, and seven years in Tibet have in common?
All three films use the same music in their trailers. Does any one know
the name or composer of the music??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Eric Wemmer Gladiator Wish
From: Eric Wemmer, miawemfam@worldnet.att.net
Just a quick note for what it's worth: This is a relatively complete
album (and damned good) but, why oh why didn't the Zucchabar music make
it to the disc? What a glaring omission! Oh well...
I guess they wanted to leave Eric Wemmer wanting just a little bit more.
Omega CD
From: "Don Campbell" <doncam12@hotmail.com>
I just got `The Omega Man` CD! Not only was your service lightning
fast, but the CD is SO good, so well-put-together, that you could safely
say it`s a film-historical document.
I`ve been a fan of Ron Grainer for some time. You mention some TV
movies he wrote for in the Omega liner notes. Those scores are terrific,
too, instantly recognizable as his style. One was `The Burglar` or `The
Criminal` (1971) and starred Richard Crenna; another was `Fire House` (1972)
and starred Vince Edwards; a third was directed by Boris `Omega Man` Sagal
in 1972, in England, but I can`t remember its name.
As I say, your work on the `Omega Man` CD was EVERYTHING a dedicated
fan of that score could possibly want, and more. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! We're very proud of it. Go
here for info.
