International Film Music Competition

The music company "Musicarte" is organizing the 1° International Film-music Competition dedicated to the Italian composer Mario Nascimbene, who died recently (Milan 1913 - Rome 2002). Nascimbene was the first Italian composer to be invited to Hollywood. He worked for important film productions such as: "The Barefoot Contessa" with Ava Gardner and Humphrey Bogart, "Alexander the Great," with Richard Burton and Claire Bloom, "A Farewell to Arms," with Rock Hudson, "Barabbas," with Anthony Quinn, Vittorio Gassman and Silvana Mangano, "Solomon and Sheba," with Yul Brinner and Gina Lollobrigida, "The Vikings," with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis and "Doctor Faustus," with Richard Burton and Elisabeth Taylor.

The international Jury is composed by:

GILLO PONTECORVO (director) - ITALY
CARLO RUSTICHELLI (composer) - ITALY
LUIS BACALOV (composer - Oscar winner for the music of the motion picture "Il postino") - ARGENTINA
MARCO WERBA (composer - winner of the "Colonna sonora award," for the music of the motion picture "Zoo") - France
ERMANNO COMUZIO (Film music expert) - ITALY.

1) The music in contest should be inspired by a scene from the italian film "Kapo," directed by Gillo Pontecorvo. The video with the sequence will be sent by March 28 (2002). Enrollment will stay open until March 25.

2) The composition shall have never be performed before and should be written for string quartet (1st violin, 2nd violin, alto, cello).

3) The music score, the separate parts for the string quartet and a digital computer version of the music should arrive to the Jury by April 20.

4) The Jury will select six compositions that shall be performed and digitally recorded.

5) The best composition will receive the "Mario Nascimbene award."

6) The second and third participants shall be awarded with a metal plate and a Diploma.

7) The final Ceremony (April 27) will take held in Italy, in the "Camillo De Nardis theater" in Orsogna, a nice medieval town surrounded by mountains.

8) The enrollment fee of 60 Euro sent by money order, (which includes the cost of the video and the post money ), must be sent to: MUSICARTE - Via Vignaiuoli no 87 66036 Orsogna (Chieti) - Fax: (0871) 867019 / 06 - 233239524. (Should the contest not take place, it will be returned).

9) The enrollment form complete with receipt shall be sent to the same address.
