NEW FSM CDs: Delerue, Moross and The Appointment

Film Score Monthly's new limited edition CDs feature classic scores by Jerome Moross and Georges Delerue -- and a special bonus release of three scores composed to the same film:

Silver Age Classics: OUR MOTHER'S HOUSE/THE 25TH HOUR

This CD reissues two classic Georges Delerue albums from 1967: Our Mother's House is a British gothic horror/character study of seven children who proceed with life as usual after their mother passes away; and The 25th Hour is a large-scale Holocaust drama starring Anthony Quinn.

Georges Delerue was a gifted melodist whose music graced the finest films of the French new wave. Our Mother's House was a rare collector's item on LP -- released only in Canada -- that became famous (or infamous) as the inspiration for Quincy Jones's score to The Color Purple. $19.95

Golden Age Classics: THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN

This is a splendid Americana score by Jerome Moross (composer of The Big Country) to the 1960 M-G-M family film of Mark Twain's classic novel. Moross effortlessly captures the wry lyricism and lighthearted sarcasm of Twain's story, with bountiful melodies and transparent orchestrations.

The CD features the complete score in newly remixed stereo, as well as bonus tracks of songs by Burton Lane and Alan Lerner, written for an aborted M-G-M musical version of the story and judiciously interpolated into Moross's work. $19.95

Silver Age Classics BONUS DISC: THE APPOINTMENT

This fascinating CD features three scores written to the same film: The Appointment, a 1969 romantic drama directed by Sidney Lumet. First is Michel Legrand's unused music; then the international theatrical score by John Barry (theme) and Don Walker (adaptation and orchestration); then the U.S. television score by Stu Phillips. The CD is entirely in stereo.

Special lower price: $16.95
