The sound on this set is really amazing. The mainstream songs sound more dynamic than ever. I'm really falling in love with the short film version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door from Lethal Weapon 2. I'm looking forward to this set very much. Like many, I've been waiting for an expanded LW2 album since 1989. The original movie's score will always be my favourite.

I love the role Eric Clapton plays in the ending of it. I'm a huge fan of his work and always thought it was neat that he could say he technically played a part in a few of the Lethal Weapon movies.

Should be getting the set today! So excited. My favorite score of the series (and I'm probably alone on this) is probably Lethal Weapon 3 actually -- it's my favorite film of the series too. Always played the hell out of the previous release of that entry. Of course that could change now -- haven't heard much of Lethal 2 outside of the film and can't remember any of Lethal 4 except for some Asian ethnic stylings. I'm very excited to find out how the comprehensive set will/could change my opinion of the scores and if the third movie's score will still be my favorite...

The "Hockey Game" cue is one I've wanted for 21 years. Not sure it's worth $120 for 60 seconds, but damn I do love that cue.

I posted part of this in the "PR: LW, SUP. RETURNS, GUNFIGHT, POLICE ACAD, ETC" thread, but… My shipment arrived Sunday too. LETHAL WEAPON is a tremendous set. I was mostly interested in the score for part 2 (the best of the series, I think), and part 4 (the worst of the franchise, and possibly the worst movie ever produced). I work in post-production in Los Angeles, and there are still stories going around about the sheer insanity of the tight schedule under which LW4 was put together (the film started shooting in January for a July release date!). Once the film wrapped production, they basically had three weeks to refine the edit before they had to set it in stone and start mixing. Kamen recorded a lot of material for picture that wasn't entirely "locked" yet, and ultimately, it's clear that the finished film contains sections of score from the previous movies… I'll be really interested to dig into what Kamen wrote and compare it to what I remember from the (again, horrid) movie. I had LETHAL WEAPON 2 on for most of last night, which sounded amazing. The added material is really intense and interesting… I liked the OST, but felt that it didn't really represent the feel of the movie itself that well, you know? And might I add, I'm happy that LLL sprung for the songs… the soundtrack for 2 in particular wouldn't be the same without that great George Harrison song at the end (and the Beach Boys tune as well, actually). While we're at it, I just want to take a moment to say that I simply can't get enough of that Mel Gibson! I just rewatched the first two LETHAL WEAPON movies a few months back, and boy is he a man's man with good moral Christian values written all over him. As the series went on, the character of Riggs became even more like Mel than he was in the first movie... I love how dedicated the guy is to his work too. I can't remember which film he was promoting, but I loved that in-character promotional campaign that he did a few years back - the one that was kind of like what Sacha Baron Cohen later did for BORAT and Will Ferrell is currently doing for ANCHORMAN 2 - only Mel decided to stage a phony drunk-driving arrest on the Pacific Coast Highway and then release a bunch of "privately" recorded tapes to the public! Hilarious! What will he think of next?

I've been having terrific fun rewatching all of the Lethal Weapon movies in preparation for listening to the box set. They're director's cuts (which I've never seen) and I've been paying close attention to the music. It just whets my appetite even more watching these films and knowing that all of the wonderful music will soon be mine! Something I could never say before. After I've listened to the box I'm sure I'll break out all of my Kamen Die Hard discs and give them a spin; I'm sure they'll make a great companion to the Lethal Weapon scores.

Questions to those who have the set: 2. In LW3, I believe, when Murtaugh is stuck in the truck with the woman who is hitting on him and singing to him during the chase, there is a nice insert of music Kamen does to match the woman's singing, is this included? 3. In LW4, at the beginning with the shark there is an insert with what I call "Leo's Theme" with some lazy comedic brass, is that included? In answer to questions 2, you actually get two versions of that chase cue from LW 3. In the film order is the version that has gospel choral overlays in two brief instances to match the woman's singing. On the second disc for that film, you get just the orchestra, no overalys, with subtle pauses where those overlays would go. In answer to question 3, that second track on the first LW 4 disc, that seems to be the cue you want, as it is Leo's theme on that pinched, muted trumpet. I haven't see the film since '98 so I didn't recall there being a shark, actually!

1. I believe LW3 has the opening with the building exploding and saving the cat. Is the music just as the building explodes included, if memory serves its a blast from the brass section as it explodes. Yes, it is. End of track 1. 3. In LW4, at the beginning with the shark there is an insert with what I call "Leo's Theme" with some lazy comedic brass, is that included? The version on the CD is actually NOT what you hear in the movie. The "film version" was assembled from cues from the previous scores. The "recorded" cue has the same structure as the "film edit" (starts with an Eric Clapton riff... transitions into Leo's theme, etc), but Kamen's version is a bit more low key than the the film edit is (personally, I think his version is better). You'll find similar scenarios all over LETHAL 4... people here don't yet realize how little of what Kamen recorded actually made it into the flick. And this might be one of the reasons I was very interested in hearing it fully and it doesn't disappoint, at least for me. There are some really rich & kinetic orchestral action cues, plus the cool Chinese percussion and new Chinese theme and the juggling of the previous films' various character themes and motifs.
