Is there a difference between the artwork designs or material included between the first and second editions?

Maybe someone can post pictures of the two to help me decide if I want to pay more for the first edition or just get the second edition

They are identical in every way possible, except the second edition has "second edition" written in a small font somewhere.

I thought the book was supposed to be more durable, becuase the glue unbounding from the pages and the cover?
But is that what people are doing though?, selling the first edition more?

Buy which ever one you can get cheaper. Then take the savings and purchase Ottman's Superman Returns LIMITED EDITION.

I got one from the first batch. In fact it was that purchase that introduced me to FSM. smile and yes Superman Returns is worth it too.

It's my understanding that the book issue was corrected before the release of the first edition, hence a short delay in the release. Mr. Kendall could shed more light on the matter, but my first edition booklet remains in perfect shape. As far as I am aware, I agree with the poster that said get whichever one you can for the cheapest, because they are the same except for the "second edition" designation on the second release.

Some of the first run of the box set had problems with the book as the pages were falling out. This is part of the reason that the second run was done. The other reason being the high number of orders that FSM received and I think a technical glitch or two. But yes, they're identical. All eight discs are exactly the same. as are the contents of the book. Only the number 001 was changed to 002.

As to price, if whoever is selling it is charging more than what was officially sold, then go with the second edition. I ordered mine from Screen Archives Entertainment when the second volume first came out and only had to spend a hundred and thirty dollars. Anything more than that and you're getting gouged.

I don't believe there was ever a 001 on the first edition. At least I don't see a number on mine , and I have the first pressing of the box set.

I had the second pressing before I gave the set away and it said 002. I'm considering getting the set again before it goes OOP.

Sure. The blue box would make a fine gift.

The CDs I gave away at the time I could NOT bring myself to sell them. Most of them I probably would have only gotten half of what I originally paid for. I am glad they went to better homes. I know I made a fellow music friend happy when he claimed the Blue Box.

I got this set for Christmas! smile

Does anyone know of some covers out there for this set? I'd like to add some for my iTunes playlist.

Usually my memory is pretty good but some of this is a blur. As I recall...the initial printing of the Superman books had an issue with the binding that caused some of them to fall apart. It also sold out faster than expected. So we very clearly needed to print extra books to give people replacements, and it also made sense to keep the item in stock (e.g. make a second pressing/printing). We added some very minor indication in the books that it was the second printing. I also very dimly recall that there might have been some extremely trivial error or typo somewhere in the book that we corrected. I am not trying to be unhelpful, I honestly don't recall! It's a great set, I wholeheartedly endorse it!

Now that I have the Blue Box set is there any reason for me to keep my Rhino Records release of Superman from 2000?

I would think that would be a personal choice. Technically it is different. So if you are a completest you might want to hold on to it. I would give it away to someone who doesn't have the blue box.

I've kept everything going back to the 2-LP set:

I've been re-visiting the Blue Box lately and getting tremendous enjoyment from Williams' original score. It might be the single greatest film score of all time.
