Remember how the Superman LP came with a black sticker on the back for its track listing? Does anybody know what was under there? It must have been a misprint, but what?

Maybe nothing is underneath the sticker and they just forgot to add the track listing to the art work?

Could the final listing have still been up in the air until the last minute?

I remember my "Jurassic Park: The Lost World" CD also had its track listing on a sticker on the back.

Wow that pic of the lp brings back memories. Born in '72 I had this lp set and fondly remember my dad playing it for me. Must have been when my love for Williams music began. This along with the Star Wars story lp. Ahhh what a time it was before downloading, cd's and the internet.

The pressing released here in Australia had the same tracklisting, printed on the rear cover...and no sticker anywhere to be seen.
Maybe it was released here AFTER track order was decided upon back in the US....or maybe the US run had a misprint,as suggested, which seems to make logical sense.

Who in America is going to tear off the sticker on their prized 2 lp set though???!!!!

Doesn't anyone here have X-ray vision?!

Exactly! The adhesive has had 35 years to set. It would probably tear the underlying print right off. I can't even open a box of elbow macaroni without damaging the lid, and those are new.

Wouldn't it be cool if it listed:

Toni Tennille - Can You Read My Mind?

Wow, this is one of those amazing posts that makes me feel so close to everyone around here!

Not only do we have such a SPECIFIC passion, but many of us (of a certain generation) all followed such a similar journey.

It always reminds me of Close Encounters, when this little sub-group of people share a vision, and within that group, an even smaller group acts on it (drawing and sculpting mountains), and within that group, an even smaller group follows the vision to completion. He he he.

Well, similarly, a very tiny group of us (of a certain age) have inside jokes or observations that may even be alien to the larger community of film music fans - but to each other, it's a major shared experience. Taping movies or shows off the tv speakers just to capture the music is one of those things. The "humiliation" of handing a cool 70's record store clerk an LP like "Planet Of The Apes" – when all the other kids were buying rock music.

...And staring at that damned Superman LP sticker and wondering, ok - obsessing over what was underneath it...why it was so obviously added later...yearning to peel it off...yet not daring to maim our LP jackets to find out.

I mean, really, what are there? Like 100 of us who would laugh and nod in agreement? I wish we could all get together, I'd buy the first round of drinks. I know I'd love you all.

Merry Christmas!

Yikes. That looks pretty tacky with the sticker covering the top of the Superman logo, especially with the remaining portion of the track listing of the previous strip visible on the left hand side and looking like it was torn by hand.

Nevertheless, if I owned that copy, I still wouldn't want to tear off the sticker to see what was underneath for fear of damaging the jacket! big grin

My guess - and it's just that - is there's nothing under there. The final track listings may have come in too late to incorporate into the printed lp jackets. This has occasionally happened with CDs. All the later pressings had the track titles printed in that position so they were obviously intended to be there. That's my guess. My own lp had the printed titles and was purchased new some years later.

I remember that 2LP set being a regular in the cut-out section, going for as low as $3.99.

Just dug out my set and all 4 corners of the sticker are pried up a little bit so I apparently tried
to find out what was under there at some point.

I'm pretty certain that's the case.

I also feel a kinship to many here, which is probably why I have this thing about members posting absolutely NOTHING about themselves on their profiles. And I'm afraid to have to include YOU among those. As I've written elsewhere, I respect members' rights to keep any details about themselves hidden -- some don't even post so much as their sex! (You DO give your sex and city, so yours isn't a total blank!) I like to think that it would be nice to know each members' favorite composers and soundtracks. Is that asking too much? They can leave the rest blank … even their sex, if they aren't willing to share that either!

If listed (and included in the film), the Duo Williams/Bricusse would have gotten an Oscar nomination.

I think that must be it because my sleeve of the 2-LP doesn't have a sticker nor a track listing.

This thread and holding the LP into my hands again bring back memories. My memory tells me that, even though I liked the film and Williams, Superman The Movie wasn't on the same level as the Star Wars or Close Encounters LPs. That's the power of big art work, they contain more room for storing memories. I almost feel sorry for youngsters and their USB sicks.

Agreed. I'm sure I've visited this board more times over the years than anyplace else on the Net.

I've never thought of it that way, but I guess this is my living room sculpture of Superman music:

The entire one for Star Trek music won't fit on my dinette table, I'm afraid.

Most impressive collection.

No LPs of superman II & III ?

The only two CDs missing, if I am not mistaken, are the Varèse Sarabande CD of Supergirl and the Japanese CD of Superman II/Superman III

Once again a very nice collection !
