Extremely happy to see Hans Zimmer didn't got the nomination for "12 years a slave" and that Bruce Broughton got a nomination for best song

Happy for Broughton, definitely. Even as a fan of Arcade Fire, I didn't think their score for Her was that much of a standout. The Social Network - I get that. It stands out, even apart from the film (my opinion!). But this? Oh well. Fine with the nominees for the most part, but kinda shocked that Hanks wasn't recognized for Captain Phillips, a performance that even the most jaded critics hailed as a master class.

12th nomination for Thomas Newman. I'd like to see him win this year.

Posted within seconds of each other. Sometimes these things just happen.

Only one I've not heard is Her

That's a tough selection as I like all the other scores. But, I reckon it will either be Desplat or Price that will win.

Yes, haven't you heard the news? Every single topic must have at least 5 (short) threads at once from now on!

Out of all them I've seen SAVING MR. BANKS and love Thomas Newman's score for it and I've heard a little of John Williams THE BOOK THIEF which sounds a lot like his other stuff and did not impress me like LINCOLN did last year.

So, before hearing the others I'm hoping SAVING MR. BANKS gets it. Newman's End Titles really got me teared up.

But of course the Oscars always give it to something off the wall, so I'm feeling that GRAVITY will probably win, just for that reason, just hearing it's not a mainstream score and more like sound patterns, noise and some wailing.

I'll try to track them all down on youtube and give a more fair listen.

Congrats to all the nominees and Desplat is definitely one of Oscar's fave noms in the passed years it's seeming to be.

No Romeo & Juliet? Guess the film really did suck.

Big congrats to Johnny W for his 49th Oscar nomination.

Can't wait for his Golden 50th nod next year!

Very glad to hear that Her got in as I love the music of Owen Pallett (also known as Final Fantasy) and feel there are many film score opportunities in his future (with/without Arcade Fire). Though his specialty is loop violin, he's also an accomplished keyboardist (not to mention fantastic composer and orchestrator).

With Zimmer out of consideration it's really anyone's award for the taking. My fingers are crossed for Thomas Newman as, after twelve nominations, it's (his) time.

Though I'm hoping for a win for Williams (how many more years are we gonna have the guy around?), I wouldn't be opposed to Thomas Newman finally getting the award.

Really good list

From allof the nominees, the best is Thomas Newman's Saving Mr Banks ( a sure distinctive Newman style but sostandout),and, aside from some big disappoinment of not nominating Tom Hanks, Oscar will always be conservative, so Gravity may win.

But Newman should win, and the worthy of winner here

I concur. Probably the best set of score nominations in many years. No real frontrunners, anyone could take the award.
