With the now for certain release of the series on DVD/Blu-Ray, will we finally see a music release of Riddle and May's music? Jeff Bond are you there? HELP! It's now possible!

Don't forget Warren Barker.

I got to say, I'd take Barker's two or three episode contributions over May's anyday.

Way back at the beginning of the FSM CD series, when we were doing some Fox titles, we actually transferred a few of the mono Nelson Riddle scoring masters (before we learned that the ownership would make the licensing impossible). We did the Batman movie instead as its ownership was much simpler. I have to tell you...the TV scores were amongst the most annoyingly repetitive and drab things I had ever heard! Sorry...

Hi Lukas,

Ah, yes, but a disc with just one version of the cues would be nice. Also, Billy Mays' completely different soundtrack for season three. With your reasoning, you would never have made the Batman movie soundtrack, which incidentally there are tracks on it that can be used for some of the second season music from the series!

Lets not forget every villain has his/her own cue--how many villains were there? If memory serves, 27 or 28. There's also a "Batmusic" version of the Batusi in a King Tut episode--Al Hirt's trumpet to die for, underwater Batfight music in the John Astin Riddler episode, etc...Lets also not forget the Batgirl Theme that has ever been released.

Yes, to a person who is not a Batman fan, it sounds like it's all DADADADADADA BATMAN--But I could go through all the seasons and get a varied assortment for sure.

All soundtracks are repetitive--You did the James Bond CDs lol!

To quote a line from one of my favorite James Bond movies: "A no from you has little chance of becoming a yes" and I do respect you as you know, but I have to disagree with you.

Remember, even the Beatles were turned down at first. Consider me George Martin.

Sitting through whole scores might be bad listen, but a CD of highlight cues would be great. Just for example, take the hugely over-the-top "rolling danger" cue in "The Penguin Declines," in the scene where Robin has been swallowed by a giant clam. You could easily get one CD of spectacular highlights.

Well, here's a taste of the music for those unfamiliar:

BATMAN: "What about Robin?"
CATWOMAN: "Robin?! I've got it, we'll kill him."

And what about this cue from the Penguin episode, "The Bird's Last Jest" at 2:00!!!!

Not drab to me.

Oh, and this drab music at 0:55 (you could use it as a sleeping pill)

How certain is it really? When the Nolan series was hot, they could have done it but didn't and the rights issues are a limbo swamp.
Phenomenal if it got release but I won't hold my breath.

One of my favorite lines from any show ever.

I find that hard to believe. After all FSM released "The Poseidon adventure" and "The French connection" and "Demon seed". Good films but the music? Oh vey!!! That is if you can call it music.
Then there is "Caine's 100" or the "Star Trek the next generation". More drones than the sky above Pakistan.

I'm sure there will be boring tracks if the soundtrack ever became true. That is inevitable. "The man from U.N.C.L.E." has quite some bits you can skip but at least it is available to be skipped!!
I'd like to have that choice.

There was great music in the series and if it was not great, it still will be great because that sound is so very much the Batman 66 series it immediately sparks off all kinds of emotions and associations.

I agree Stu. A simple, "No John, we have no plans at this time" would have been all that was needed. While I realize a thick skin is needed on this board (being a member since 2002) I also know that people have their likes and obsessions, if you will (mine being the 66 Batman music.) I would be lying if I said that my feelings weren't hurt, but I just move on. I could ramble on about how many soundtracks I thought were boring, but that would only serve to upset others.

A DJ once told me: "Don't ever talk badly about a song no matter how much you dislike it, because it's someone's favorite." But then he was working for a company that could fire him for his opinions. Lukas has no such worries here.

A soundtrack WILL be made, by some company. Maybe even with my help.

With all due respect Disco Stu, you're doing the same thing you're accusing Lukas, but now in a far less respectable manner.

And I'm not sure where you're getting your ideas from on the two television scores referenced. There's next to no droning in the ST:TNG Ron Jones box. I have the set. I listened to it all. More than once. I have reviewed it at length.

The score is mostly composed of light electronic experimentation (early on), orchestral edge, some light jazz compositional stylings (he protege under Schifrin some), with also a number of fully bodied orchestral cues ranging from dynamic action material, to softer passages. I'll admit I probably can't express the music as well as say Jeff Bond could, but I think I did a decent job there.

I'm strugling to even come up with ten droning cues.

Some random stand-out cues:

"Fatal Neckties/Radiation" (particularly the dramatic crescendo at 1:13)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlfD43RWiRE

The opening cue from the episode "A Matter of Perspective":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQteSPQvVLI

The unusual colorful chase piece "Saving Palmer":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbaklTAVQ2E

The soft "Klingon Tea Ceremony":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6nbN1Ehg5c

The soft electronics followed by a memorable orchestral trail out of "They Will Be Coming":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxklAsl2v2I (0:52 onward is my preference)

The Klingon subdued action piece "Moment of Decision":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qKM6Caxr8w (the first minute of the cue)

The action piece "Terrorist Attack":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_eI7KHm9yQ

And finally "Take Us Out" with the full-bodied orchestral sweeping ending (pretty good for a TV score orchestra size):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb-hEVcu73E
(actually, I think the final cue from "The Defector" does it better at the end, but this cue has a better opening)

And I'm fairly certain "Cain's Hundred" pre-dates droning as we know it today. Maybe you meant something else.

We all have our opinions on scores, some stronger than others. But I can live with Lukas not enjoying "Batman". I'm sure there's a "Holy ________" Robin quote to be made of it, but still.

Your feelings were hurt because Lukas expressed his opinion? You feel that you need a thick skin if people disagree with you?

It's not like he was rude about it. He just said what he thought of the music.

And please remember, he was in the process of pulling the monos with a release in mind, so whether Lukas liked the scores or not, he was still looking to a possible release; now there's a trooper! Go Lukas, go!

Yea, come on man...The nerve of you to share your opinion...This is America, a free country, and you have no right to share your opinion.

Lol, you have nothing to apologize for man, you were just stating how you felt...But I'll digress and say, Elfman Rules! That is all.
