I have been waiting SO frickin' long for Beck to get back in the contemporary/modern/futuristic action/adventure game! I love his scores for The Sentinel, Elektra, RED. He's so very good with electronics and thrills and although he does excel in multiple genres, I've wanted him to work in this area more for quite some time. I made sure to point this out to him at the recent Fans of Film Music 3 event, told him how much I loved The Sentinel and I want more of that stuff!

The film opens in a few weeks and I think the CD is coming out on Water Tower. Quite excited for this one. Beck must be coining it at the moment, with all those royalties flying in from the Frozen sales (that film and it's soundtrack have become a phenomenon, it would seem).

Hi losher, I think I saw it at the bottom of the poster in my local Odeon. I don't know if it will feature that song. I haven't seen the trailer or any clips for this film yet, but I like the Twilight Zone-like vibe of the story, Liman can be trusted in this genre and Beck doing the score is an added bonus (in fact, I don't even have a problem with Cruise in action mode).

"Out of curiosity, have you seen last year's Oblivion with Tom Cruise? Great flick, and my personal favorite score for the year barely over Steven Price's Gravity. Highly recommended" ---------------------------------------------- Hey losher, sorry mate, just noticed your question. Yes, I did see Oblivion at the cinema when it came out and pretty much enjoyed it. The distraction of many other Sci-Fi films (Moon, Wall-E, Total Recall) eroded the fun a bit, but overall it was enjoyable enough. I thought the score worked okay in the film too, but it isn't the kind of score I would listen to that much on it's own. Too MV/RC-like for me. I suppose I would say the same about the Gravity score, which I thought worked wonders in the film, but haven't gotten around to picking up on CD either. EOT opens in the UK this Friday so I will be back soon with my torts!

I can see why many people will claim that this is "another Zimmer droning, mainly a derivative soundscape". But judging from what I have seen from the trailers the score seems to be a perfectly fine and appropriate accompaniment. And since Beck is absolutely capable of delivering moving scores for a variety of genres, this will be an interesting experience. Sure, you can detect elements familiar from the usual blockbuster suspects. But it does not take a clairvoyant to see that this is what the director and the producers were going for. Looking forward to this, too.
