I apologize if this subject was talked about already but being new to the board I still like to hear opinions and suggestions on what your favorite compilation albums are? Out of my whole soundtrack collection, compilations are still heard in my rotation the most especially in the car, exercising or relaxing. Silva has done some great works. I know they are not the originals but i still enjoy them. My top three are: John Barry Collection by Silva, The Science Fiction Album by Silva and Fantastic Journey by Erich Kunzel. This is a oldie but goodie.
Are the scores complete in the Godzilla Perfect Collection?
I would need all of the previous editions in order to be able to tell you for certain... the Futureland/Toshiba versions. I have never been able to score ANY of them. And I've never done a shootout between the movies and the box CD's simultaneously. I hasten to add that I have only the 1st 3 boxes--covering the original Showa-era films.
Anyway, according to what I read on the net, the box contains more music than what the Futurelands contained, but how much more depends on the individual movie. They seem pretty comprehensive to me. And depending on you take someone else's word for something, I've read that the sound quality on the boxes sometimes leaves a little to be desired. That's okay with me, though, because I readily accept the limitations of the vintage (and it's likely that these sets are Toho's last word on the scores).
Prior to the boxes the only Godzilla I had were the 2 volumes by GNP. Quite a godsend for me at the time, I can tell you! I still think they're great.
(Sorry for the slightly long-winded answer. I could talk about Godzilla stuff all night! )
The Alfred Hitchcock album from Varese, with the Utah Symphony conducted by Ketcham, produced by George Korngold. Music from Strangers on a Train, Notorious, Suspicion and Family Plot. Marvelous performances and sound. Classic album. One of the very best of its type.
I just checked and see there are several used ones from just $4 on Amazon:
Octoberman: You own the Twilight Zone Box set! I have been wanting this since I started collecting. The price is ridiculous for a used copy. I own the Bernard Herrmann set by Joel McNeely and The Best of TZ by Varese and a copy of your four disc set and I LOVE it. I made covers and everything for them. When will they make another reissue? I love Alfred Hitchcock music as well. I enjoy the Essential Alfred Hitchcock which I believe is also a Silva collection.
Hands down Georges Delerue London Sessions. I really liked Star Trek Astral Symphony as well. Also Disasters! The Movie Music Album. Anything put out by Erich Kunzel. Henry Mancini- Premier Pops

I remember coming across the set in a used shop years ago. I nearly crapped my pants. I never hoped to even SEE one. Who would get rid of such a thing? And this was before the aftermarket price went through the roof (though it was still a pretty penny). I swear to God when I got it home and put it in the player my hands were shaking. How sad is that?
Yeah it was a boot, but in the late 70's this was a treasure beyond words because almost none of it was available in any other form at the time.

In addition to many already stated, I've listened to these time and time again over the years, which of course says more about my geekdom than their quality, but I love both.
