A couple of questions.

If you are an old-timer and bought this new back in the early 60's, what all came in the Box?

I bought one used years ago and it came with the LP Album and a Hard Cover Glossy Souvenir Book.

Today I found another used one for under 4 bucks and this one had and additional item.

An envelope called KING OF KINGS PORTFOLIO which contains 8 color stills (on soft paper)

It seemed though, that the first one I bought had the stills connected to the book and you could rip them out if I remember correctly?

What versions do you all have of this and what all did you get? Just curious, thanks.

And if you bought this great Deluxe Edition at the time of release, what did it cost?

Here's a photo of the Portfolio envelope:

I had that boxed LP set and as far as I can recall there was no portfolio with it.

Yes, the 'complete' deluxe edition came with an envelope with stills. I have it as well. As far as the 'tear out' or 'cut-out' book - are you perhaps thinking of the 'Ben-Hur' souvenir book which had the paintings you could remove?

The hard-back "Spartacus" souvenir brochure also had "Tear Out" portraits.

Found it in mono as a young kid around 1967 or 68 in the old Korvettes dept store (NYC area). The box was open and a little scuffed on the outside, but the inside was like new, looked never played. I was charged full price for it, maybe $4 or $5. It was the only box set of this I remember seeing in store. Eveything was in it, hardback souvenir book and packet of stills. I still have it. The souvenir book was available for about $1.25 plus postage (believe it or not) from the distributor in New Jersey for many years. I have a copy of that too it came in a sealed plastic bag with a notice stamped on the outside of the bag informing the buyer of the enclosed stills.

This is pure nostalgia, probably the most extravagantly packed Rozsa LP, except for BEN-HUR.

I have a copy of the KING OF KINGS LP with the eight photos inside the souvenir book, but without the portfolio sleeve and the production brochure. What does the brochure look like?

I believe the production brochure and souvenir book are one and the same

The one I got and is in the pictures in this post had the stills in the envelope. I just figured the production brochure was another name for the souvenir book maybe? However the envelope that the stills are in says "This package contains a brochure on the filming of KING OF KINGS as well as four Biblical color plates, suitable for framing." Confusing a bit.

My envelope contained 8 stills, two of which were duplicates of Joseph with Mary on the Donkey, 1 nice shot of Jesus 3/4 posed face shot deep blue eyes, 1 close-up of Jesus sweating, 1 sort of overhead Last Supper shot with 3 tables joined together in a Y transfiguration with apostles sitting, 1 shot of Mary looking sad, 1 shot of Mary looking up and hopeful and 1 shot of Jesus talking to a massive crowd of people.

No 4 Biblical Color Plates that I could see unless they meant the stills and there was 8 of those.

Interesting find, Zooba. Thanks for sharing it. Over the years, I have accumulated five copies of this box -- and none of them had the envelope. Of the four that still had the pictures (including the one I bought new at the time the film was playing in the theatres), there were only four stills (Joseph and Mary on the donkey, sad Mary, Sermon on the Mount and the Agony in the Garden) and they were on photo paper, not "soft paper." Guess I'll have to keep looking for more used copies until I find what you got! smile (One of my boxes, however, included a beautiful German pressing of the LP!)

Wow, I never knew the deluxe LP came with that pack of photos. I got my copy from a used record store years ago, and it only contained the LP and the book.

Thanks for the info.

When I saw this film on TV in the late 1960s, this was one of the very first scores to make an impact on me as a young child, and make me want to seek out an LP of its music.

The two I own have the separate stills placed nicely just inside the back of the book, no envelopes. And my folks bought them way "back in the day".
