Hello Peter,

Can you recommend an inexpensive hotel in the area?

Hello Peter,

Can you recommend an inexpensive hotel in the area?

When I attended this two years ago, I stayed at Motel 6 in Hollywood -- quite cheap for the location, but you still need to take a bus to Beverly Garland Hotel (assuming that's where they'll hold it this year). From what I remember, the Beverly Garland itself is rather expensive.

There is a bit of a chance it will be elsewhere this year, so make sure about location before anyone books.

Fans of Film Music 5 will take place Saturday August 30th 2014 on an actual scoring stage. The stage is called The Bridge and is located in Glendale, CA. MORE news to follow, but wanted to let EVERYONE know the day so you can start planning. I'm expecting to have some type of Friday night gathering somewhere and for those that already have Williams tickets, all I can say is sorry frown

Hiya, Peter. I will be in Los Angeles during this time frame, and so I will most certainly be there for this year's event. Looking forward to "doing lunch" or dinner at Trader Vic's with you and Edwin, as well. Bring on the Mai Tai's.

The weekend in question is Labor Day Weekend this year. Surely because everyone has that Monday off from work, you can plan events Sunday afternoon and evening, and Monday afternoon? Doesn't have to be Friday evening is what I mean, especially since it conflicts with the Friday Night Hollywood Bowl John Williams concert.

I'll be attending - I'll be in LA from Saturday to Tuesday.

Sweet! I'll be there (with my mom again, of course!).

I always liked having some sort of Friday night meet and greet. A great way for folks to reconnect and/or be introduced to the lovely fans that fly in. Sunday evening is the David Newman Big Picture concert and I'll be raffling off 4 backstage passes from that at this years event. Granted winning a backstage pass ONLY gets you backstage. You still have to buy your main concert ticket to get into the actual Bowl.

The plus of having it NOT not he Williams/Newman Bowl weekend last year was we could do a Friday night gathering/mixer and it didn't interfere at all. I do my absolute best, as most of you know.

Should be a fun weekend!!

Since it is now a new location for the FFM I guess living at the Beverly Garland (as I did last time) is out of the question so anyone who knows the area around The Bridge Recording could give me some possible choices of hotels in that area. Thanks in advance from someone who is going all the way from Sweden.

The Bridge studio is not far AT ALL from The Beverly Garland by the way Tobias. Not sure how you are getting around while in LA, but it's like 15 minutes IF THAT. VERY close my friend.

Well, if no one else of those who will attend FFM5 is going to stay at the Beverly Garland neither will I. Since I am not going to have rental car I have to either walk, take a taxi or if someone else stays at that same hotel I can "hitchhike" with that person to The Bridge Studio.

Unfortunately THE BRIDGE at 736 Salem St. is in an industrial part of Glendale. The closest hotel is the Day's Inn over 10 blocks away as you can see by this map but is a straight shot east on Salem and then north on Pacific:

Indeed getting together with others to stay at one place is a good idea so you can carpool. THE most attractive place in the area is the beautiful Americana mall (also over 10 blocks away next to the massive Glendale Galleria) that was designed by the Disney people and has a little streetcar and fountains. But the closer you stay to it the pricier things get.

...and then there is my house but that has been booked for weeks big grin

Tobias - I expect you should be able to get someone else to pick you up no problem. If I decide to go I would volunteer to do that but I haven't yet decided if I am going.

Thanks Henry my friend for the information. By the way it will be great to meet you again. Unfortunately I am still ashamed of my little mishap during last time we met but on the other hand I am not sure if I am going to any of the concerts this year...or not.
