Finally gave this CD a spin today.
I remember the film being pretty rubbish but watchable, in that good/bad way some films are.
Mariel Hemmingway was a real strange one. Quite statuesque (Amazonian?) and sexy in some ways, but also butch and manly in others. Overall, I reckon I fancied her and would have hit on her if she was in a pub in Liverpool in my younger days wink
I remember the love theme being real pretty and some of the action/heroic bits were cool.
There are a lot of broad comedy/parody moments on the CD, much more than I remember. I ain't a fan of that style too much.
Still, there's enough of the good stuff to keep me happy and I'm sure I even heard Cliff riffing on that old Johnny Williams 60's comedy style a couple of times.
Once again, the pretty love theme is another variation on the tried and true Natural/Cocoon melody that was de rigueur from around '84 to '94, but it's still very nice.
Quartet can be relied upon to put together a fine package and this one doesn't disappoint.
I recommend this CD if you like Eidelman's music and comedy/romantic scores when they were good.
It's been a pretty cool past 12 months for Cliff fans and I haven't even unwrapped Meteor Man yet! smile

Except for the missing end credits song and track order that makes no sense, it's great to finally see this one available after all those years.
Not that many major Eidelman's scores left, but it would be also nice to finally see Sexual Life released and Open Window on CD.

The end credits song, although partially composed by Eidelman, it was impossible to include. In fact, the bundles rights of this song were to blame for the soundtrack album was not released at the time.

About the track order, this album, as you can read in the credits, has been produced by Cliff Eidelman himself, he has contractually the right to do in this way and we have respected his wish.

Anyway, no one seems very interested on this CD. I love Cliff Eidelman's music, and Delirious and Crazy People were at the top of our wish-list, but they have been (along Canadian Bacon) the three bigger flops of our label, and all three were expensive productions.

In the case of Delirious, we have not sold even 500 units yet. Bad times for comedy scores. And, of course, we will not put John Candy on any cover art anymore ;-)

Gee, I'm really sorry to hear that news about Delirious. I have both Crazy People and Delirious and like them both (Crazy People more than Delirious though purely because of liking the movie more). The high quality liner notes of both releases is worth a special mention.

Anyway, just wanted to show my gratitude for two wonderfully produced scores. I now have three Eidelman scores (the other non-Quartet release being Star Trek VI).

I wish you well for future releases, Quartet Records.

wow... that's quite terrible! frown
Hopefully it will continue selling although at this superslow speed.
Quite a shame since all three are excellent! frown

Wow, this is sad. But I want to let you know I must be part of an exclusive club, because I have Delirious, Crazy People and Canadian Bacon in my collection and they are very good scores. Well, this board is strange when it comes to comedy titles. They want unreleased scores released and when one is released, they pass over it to buy a re-re-re-re-release of a score that is called "remastered" with a few extra cues of the composer plunking on a piano. Please do not give up hope on these small scores, there are people out there that like them, just hope people see that these scores need to be supported or some other scores will not see release. I would buy these type of scores over most of the "Golden" age scores and the new movie scores that labels are releasing today. Once again, I am sorry these are not selling well and I will keep supporting your label as I have in the past.

We sympathize with José from Quartet. Yes, it's a shame that comedy scores don't sell quite well. MV from LLL had already stated this in a previous thread, we can confirm that we also sit on a bunch of unsold Shore's "She-Devil" and Silvestri's "Clean Slate" CDs.

We can assume that there are plenty of excellent comedy scores to listen and they can compete with fantasy/action scores. But it's not the same listening pleasure but when we like film music, we need to be more curious towards all the movie genres. Too bad because scores like "Crazy People" are the kind of scores which are exquisite and well written. It's nice to see that labels such as Quartet (and the mains ones as well!) always give the opportunity to make discover comedy scores even though only a few soundtracks collectors show interest in this. It is a shame because of it, there won't be anymore comedy scores to be released...

Maybe next time put John Candy with a gun and car explosions on the cover, it will help to sell more! ;-)

Anyway keep up the good work José and all the label managers about comedy scores! Hope it will change…someday!

I was thinking of purchasing both Delirious and Crazy People, but since they were "flops" that might mean a future price reduction? Look, I know Quartet would like people to pay full price, but I only have so many dollars to spend on soundtracks, and when an item I paid full price for goes down in price after I buy it... well, that really bugs me.

As for paying full price to "support the label", that's all well and good, but I'd prefer to leave that chore to those individuals with an income level higher than mine. In any case, I own a number of other Quartet CDs that I did pay full price for (including Canadian Bacon), so if the other two are going to be lower priced in the future, I see nothing wrong with me stating that I am willing to wait for a reduction.

Everyone is entitled to manage his or her budget the way they see fit. The upshot of holding off on "flops," though, is that labels like Quartet and Music Box will be disinclined to release similar scores in the future ... meaning they won't EXIST in the first place to be someday price-reduced. Just something to consider.

In the meantime, DELIRIOUS is an entirely engaging, surprisingly adventurous romp with some very memorable themes. I hope people will continue to discover it in spite of its relative obscurity.

Could you slap them a little harder? I hope that they never have to put these on sale and you will miss out on the titles. Why did you have to post this. You must like hitting someone when they are already down. Sometimes I just have to shake my head at some of the people on this board (including a few record producers) and see why so many people have left.

That's sad to hear about it and the other comedy scores. I really don't get why they aren't as popular as other scores.

That said I do still need to pick up all three you've mentioned and Meteor Man from Intrada.

I'll have to pick up Canadian Bacon next time I place an order. I haven't seen it in years but it's comedy. It's Elmer Bernstein. It'll look nice next to Stripes, Airplane!, and Spies Like Us. smile

Jose
The competition for score buyers money has been furious lately, well really in the last few years, the releases have been extraordinarily rich for us. I will certainly try to buy some Cliff Eidleman pretty soon. Cliff is a terrific composer.

I think people are more less likely to take the risk of picking up something they aren't familiar with. And Eidelman, aside from Star Trek is more obscure to many. I however own everything of his, including Quartet's latest releases.

I know with rising shipping costs it doesn't help either. Quartet has that issue more because they are more expensive to buy from directly.

Well, nothing prevents you from buying it from SAE or Intrada, where you can get anything for the same price as any limited edition from US labels. If at least SAE and Intrada would be moving stock more quickly than Quartet, which is quite expensive to order from directly unless you are adding more CDs (even then it is still cheaper to order from the US than directly), they would request more copies from Quartet and they wouldn't be sitting on 700+ copies of these marvelous scores, which are still limited to 1000 copies only.

Ditto what Ado and Jwd said. I have Stripes, Airplane and Spies Like Us. (among many others) So I support the genre wholeheartedly. Listening to the sound samples for the titles mentioned I wasn't convinced they are must buys, which is the case nowadays. Hearing complete cues (instead of snippets) or better yet given the option to hear the entire score via streaming could bode better for sales. I know in the old days providing 20 or 30 second samples (of usually the best parts) were enough to entice sales. But such is not the case anymore.

If I "miss out" then I miss out. I purchased Canadian Bacon because anything by Elmer Bernstein is a "must buy" for me. Cliff Eidelman isn't. I don't recall the music in Delirious and I've never seen the other movie. No "slapping" intended. Some may buy as a result of reading they were "flops" in order to "support the label". I won't be one of those people, but I'm sure some will. I wish them luck in moving them... I was only commenting on something that happened over which I have no control (whether a release is successful or not). Me buying or not buying won't change that.
