It seems that the first episode of the show was released online. (for selected countries only - damn you, showtime!). Has anyone watched it and can comment on the score?
I have and it's very good indeed. The main titles are beautiful (both the music and the stunning imagery - no surprise for a Showtime show).
Very nice indeed. Only eight episodes in S1; I'm assuming/hoping Abel scored all of them? It's great to see him working on a project like this. Need to DVR this sucker.
Loved episode 1!! It officially debuts May 11, and I'm praying to the television gods that this show continues to be excellent and gets renewed. Great cast, interesting characters, great production value. I don't remember the last time I was this impressed by a pilot.
I wasn't that impressed, but I agree that it has some promise. It should, with all that talent involved (Dalton, Green, Korzeniowski, Bayona etc.). Not particularly scary as such, but I love the Victorian era.
Neither here... the pilot was just ok... the music had some great moments like the finale, but so far the whole show has some room to get better... There has been several pilots or recent shows I have been far more impressed than with this one (so far).
I'm with Bondo, I thought this was a great pilot. Sure there's room to improve, but this was a strong start with compelling characters and performances (I love the team of Dalton and Green, Hartnett's character needs more fleshing out, which I'm sure will come). It looked fantastic, too.
I thought Korzeniowski's score was very good, and given a good few chances to shine in the mix. I'll certainly be keeping up with the series and I'd definitely buy an album should one be released.
The second episode is phenomenal and left me utterly speechless. Truly beautiful, horrifying and mystifying at the same time - helped immensely by Korzeniowski's sublime score.
John Logan is a hit or miss writer for me, and I typically have little patience for these sorts of literary "mash-ups." But I was pleasantly surprised by the pilot on most counts, including the score. It's enough to keep me tuned in for the time being!

I watched it over a week before the official premiere -- Showtime made it available for free on their On Demand, and while I don't think it was as bad as some wrote above, I do hope it gets better. As for Korzeniowski's music, funny, but that slipped past me and I didn't pay much attention to it. I'll try to re-watch it in a day or so and pay more attention to the music. They're also showing a behind-the-scenes special of about a half hour, which I found fascinating -- the writer has the most to say, and it's nice to hear how the project came to fruition.
The show is pretty good - not as great as it seems to think it is, but solidly entertaining nonetheless. Abel's score is one of the best things about it. There's an especially lovely motif for Frankenstein that's been developed in the last two episodes.
