Writer-director Joel Rapp put together an amazing little film for almost no money and in almost no time. Rapp was a very prolific comedy writer for TV, and this was one of only two films he directed. He graciously gave me a lot of his time in helping my research for the liner notes. I highly recommend the picture. It's not a teen flick as one might surmise from the title. I've always loved the scores to 1950s and early '60s juvenile delinquent films. I even put together my own compilation CD of highlights from those kind of films. Your CD is definitely ordered! I've seen all of these films and love the hip music. If you ever do more in this area, please consider Ronald Stein's GIRLS IN PRISON, THE DIARY OF A HIGH SCHOOL BRIDE, and DRAGSTRIP GIRL. Also, Richard LaSalle's NAKED YOUTH is pretty wonderful, incorporating rip-offs (or shall we say "homages") to MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM and VERTIGO. And yes, of course, other people have mentioned John Williams' DADDY-O, which is another gem. I could go on and on about JD scores, but instead, let me say that your new release makes my day. Thanks for putting out something so obscure. I hope other people will just take the plunge and buy this CD, even if they don't know the films. In the late 1950s the JD films were very popular. I was just about a teenager and my older brother Joe and I went to these films. I remember "Rumble on the Docks" had "good" teen thugs and "bad" teen thugs! There were two different versions of the great Tony Casanova theme song: a more rocking version in the film's credits, and a 45 rpm released that contained a slower, more "doo-wop" version of the song. The HIGH SCHOOL CAESAR/ DATE BAIT release looks great. Will the Reggie Perkins theme songs for CAESAR and DATE BAIT be included in the CD? I think there were two different versions of Perkins' theme song for DATE BAIT. The version in the film's credits is more uptempo, while the '45 version was slower, ala DIARY OF A HIGH SCHOOL BRIDE. The last video release I saw of HIGH SCHOOL CAESAR was from Something Weird Video, I believe. The Reggie Perkins song was missing from that print, and Perkins' name did not appear in the credits. Not only will we be including both versions of "High School Caesar," but we'll be including a demo version of "Date Bait Baby" in addition to the one heard in the picture. In the liner notes I discuss the two different versions of HIGH SCHOOL CAESAR, one of which began with the rock song, and the other of which began with a Carras orchestral cue. The credits of each version of the film reflect the music in that particular version. This may end up as my favorite soundtrack release of the year. It just so happens that "High School Caesar" and "Diary of a High School Bride" are my two favorite movie theme songs. I was so excited to finally find a '45 rpm record of Ray Anthony's "Incredible Shrinking Man" theme, but the record was more of a big band arrangement, and not the wonderfully moody music that actually opens the film.    Posted:   Jul 20, 2014 - 12:42 PM     By:   MMM   (Member) A few years ago I was preserving some of a client's acetates, and in them was the demo version of the song that became the theme from THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN. Unfortunately, due to ownership issues, I can't post the sound, but maybe one of these days. It's fascinating to hear, both for its differences between that and what ended up in the soundtrack, as well as the similarities.
