In light of the death of James Garner yesterday, what's your favorite score from a feature film he starred in? My favorite is "The Great Escape".

Seconded. Looking over his IMDb page, there's no contest.

By virtue of the countless number of times I've listened to it over the decades: Hour of the Gun.

A dead heat between Elmer's Great Escape and Jerry's Hour of the Gun

But for some reason, 36 Hours nearlly rates as high. Odd.

Johnny Mandel's "The Americanization of Emily," which is also the film that has my favorite Garner performance. He was a tremendous presence on film and television, he could be droll and laconic, or sharp and conniving (or sometimes both simultaneously) - very sad to hear about his passing.

I've always enjoyed William Ross's score for My Fellow Americans. Hope someday we'll see a full release of it.

I don't supposed you GHOULS could wait until the man is buried before starting these sorts of threads?

Do any of you have any idea of how Disrespectful and downright crass you are for starting and even posting here.

The Man was an incredible actor and deserves a bit more then a bunch of fanboys debating what film had the best score for which film he was in.

You all should be ashamed of yourselves, the sad thing is that NONE OF YOU will even grasp what I'm getting at.

In other words, Hour Of The Gun. Good choice, Ford.

I fail to see what's so "ghoulish" about celebrating the best work of a celebrity after they pass away...these people live their lives in the public eye, and I'm sure they would be appreciative to know that they affected their fans so deeply that they'd care enough to MAKE a list of their best work. What, should there be a week of "respective" silence for a week before anyone can discuss Garner's body of work?

I've only just this moment learned about the death of James Garner. He was a real favourite of mine - a refined, elegant actor who exuded class!!

"The Great Escape" is his best film, IMO, and he also made some interesting, smaller films for television. Back in the 1960's I loved him in "Maverick" and that's when I first happened upon this actor.

These kinds of gratuitous comments are unwarranted and undesirable. The best way to honour an actor is to think about his films and how they might have affected us and I'm sure James Garner would agree.

One day after Peter O'Toole died and before he was buried, the loathsome hypocrite Thaxton posted in a thread headed "Best Score for a Peter O'Toole film".

Thaxton's post read:

Well, my personal favorites are

BECKET (Laurence Rosenthal)

and for very personal reasons

HIGH SPIRITS (George Fenton)

I feel the same way about these sorts of threads.

The Man hasn't even been BURIED BY HIS FAMILY.

The fact that you can't grasp this doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Well at last report I'm still among the living GARY WRIGHT..

I'm far from perfect, but at least try and learn from my mistakes and try and be a decent human being.

Something alot of folks here are IMHO failing at tonight.
