This has some quavering guitar notes on the main theme that just don't sit right with me. I wonder if a CD will be forthcoming. According to what I've read it's being released on cd on October 1st 2014. The quality is variable, some of the tracks are as good as the originals, whereas some miss the mark completely, I've just downloaded it so that I can listen to the tracks that were missing from the GDM "complete" release. If you take it for what it is, an attempt to recreate one of Maestro Morricone's greatest works, it's not a bad attempt I can't resist saying this, some of it's GOOD, some of it's BAD and some of it is UGLY. But it's all we've got until someone releases a newly remastered, COMPLETE edition of this landmark score.

I'd love to hear a sonically superior re-creation of this. I'm not sure this qualifies. Nothing could persuade me to forsake the original score espansion from 2004. It's high on the playlist for life.

'How much is missing from the 'expanded' EMI release from several years ago?' Several cues here and there. Will have to check my (complete) version to let you know...

How much is missing from the 'expanded' EMI release from several years ago? Nothing, really. Alot of 'twangs', whistles, and hoots. The only music "missing" is the dissonant strings from the scene where Blondie is loading the gun while the banditos sneak up on him in the hallway> ANd, a reprise of "The Fort" at the Langstone bridge sequence. And, the repeating drum beat at the last scene in the cemetary. Big effin' deal! brm

The 30 seconds I heard of L'estasi dell oro definitely did not entice me to listen further. What is the sense of recording it again and smothering it with some sort of terrible reverb? Plus the oboe sounds really out of tune to me.

How much is missing from the 'expanded' EMI release from several years ago? This is my list of the missing music; 1) Stevens Death, at the start of the film (very dramatic) 2) The scene when Tuco goes to fetch water for Blondie in the desert. (a very slow version of the theme) 3) The Story of a Soldier (instrumental) played when our heroes first enter the prison camp. 4) The introduction and ending of "2 Against 5". (Variations of the theme) 5) The Strong (extended version) played when we first see the union Fortifications over the river. 6) Marcia (very slow version for drums and harmonica) used for the Union Captain. 7) The Strong (very dramatic version) played before the Union attack on the bridge. 8) The Strong (quiet version) played as the Captain dies. 9) End Titles, a long version of the drum beat which ends with the main title and plays out the film. There is also the music for Tuco's bath, the film version is another version of the theme tune, plus the scene when Blondie leaves Tuco in the desert ( a short version of the theme) Altogether the complete score runs for 74 minutes (approx) Hope this gives you some idea of what was missing from the GDM/EMI complete release of a few years ago.

The very idea to re-record a classic Morricone score like THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY, one of my favorite films and scores, is highly intriguing. The score not only relies on unusual vocal effects and irregular orchestration, but also on a peculiar recording set up. I think it is wonderful somebody performs and records this music anew, and I'm very interested in the results. Alas, it seems to be available as a compressed download only.

I just sampled the samples (yep), admittedly only with a cheap in-ear (and only in ONE ear), yet in any case, the samples do sound artificial and processed, the original recording seems clearly superior.
