BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA and Williams' JFK are hands-down the best scores of the 90s. If you haven't heard them yet (how that could be I don't know) you REALLY missed something. (BTW: the respective movies are TOP NOTCH as well...) Perhaps it works better in the film. (and if you haven't tried it yet, anyone here should check out Portrait of a Lady). You are right in that the album is quite intense on its own, mainly because Kilar operates in a quasi-minimalistic idiom with plenty of "chord-stop" effects. It managed to located this distant, unused method of scoring horror and use it to full effect. I can't think of another romantic horror score quite like kilar's BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA. The opening cue unnerves me like no other. The "Hunt Builds" cue is relentless and driving in its intensity, slowly building to a climax overflowing with emotion and power. kilar's THE NINTH GATE was pretty good. Somewhat in the shadow of DRACULA (kilar scoring pure evil), it paled, but it certainly had some wonderful moments like "Vocalise" and "Opening Titles." kilar was born to write music for the cello. PORTRAIT OF A LADY contained an abundance of the romantic leanings from DRACULA, although somewhat tamer. Still worth a listen or ten. Other than that not heard much from Kilar. I think I tried his PAN TADEUSZ one time on (GUSHING) recommendation from Jonathon Broxton, but I didn't find it to be as rapturous as he found it to be.    Posted:   Apr 26, 2010 - 5:51 PM     By:   Illustrator   (Member) I've always loved the music in this trailer. Theres something to be said about the creepy, sexually obsessive music from the later. That $600 one is just some Amazon vulture, there are always a few out there.
