If you seen the one minute leaked video the new Doctor is channeling Matt Smith.
I think we will understand everything in several minutes after Season 11 begins - how he introduce the prologue (maybe I'm wrong, but I think it must be continuation of previous "free fall" scene, so it's need heroic/thematic music) and then - how he arrange the Theme. I think I could estimate new music direction (I like it/I don't like it) just with this 2 cues...
Old fans still argue whether JNT giving Dudley Simpson and his regular chamber orchestra the boot in 1980 was what killed Doctor Who (it wasn't, in fact I'd argue the music got way better with the Radiophonic Workshop running things in the early 80s). We'll see how this move goes down.

The music on Akinola's Soundcloud page is very interesting and engaging. I'm extremely skeptical of Chibnall, but he seems to be hiring the right people.

Eh I'm more of a Leisure Hive guy. Kingsland's stuff is a little bleep-bloop for my tastes.
I have only recently discovered this news, and I must say I'm actually very excited to hear what he does.
I've heard some of his work and whilst I will miss Murray Gold, I do believe the show is in good hands with him on board, at least as far as the music goes.
Gold was still doing amazing things overall, but nothing like he was doing a few years ago. Sad to see him go. Glad to see someone new get a run.

I always liked Malcolm Clarke's darker score for Earthshock. March of the Cybermen is one of the better themes of the JNT era.

I dunno how I feel about it myself. It lacks the power and richness of the more symphonic versions of the theme, but it's hard to complain about when it hews so closely to a prior established style for the show.
But how is the episode score itself? I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, so I am very curious.
From what I heard of it (didn't watch the whole episode) it was modern, atmospheric, ambient/droney/vibey. Very much in keeping with what passes for 'standard' TV drama scoring these days (yes, we do get some exceptional scoring from time to time - FARGO by Jeff Russo, OUTLANDER by Bear McCreary). Didn't do anything for me personally.

I'm sure I read that Murray Gold used the original theme in his arrangements, it was buried a lot deeper. Can't say this version does much for me, the percussion doesn't seem to gel with the original samples or the other production choices. I'm sure it'll grow on me. Maybe.
*Possible Very Minor Spoilers* As for the score, I really wanted to like it. As a huge fan of Murray Gold, I knew that my default position would be to be disappointed, but I didn't expect to be that disappointed. There were two glimmers of quality, the first was the sample of the original theme when she first appeared on screen and second a brief montage as she built a piece of well known DW equipment (fans will know what I mean!). However, the final showdown was where it really fell apart; a long-ish action sequence with drum loops that didn't go anywhere, no builtup of tension or change in pace as the drama moved. Worst, when it came to the Doctor doing a (perhaps inevitable!) big speech, it didn't swell or give you one of those epic Gold payoffs, it just carried on, more or less, droning away. Indeed I would go so far as to say that it spoiled the pacing of the entire finale as it was perfectly well acted and directed, the music brought it to a crashing halt.
Of course, all of that must be caveated with this being the first episode and that it may improve. Having said that, Gold hit it out of the park from very early on (Matt Smith's first episode has absolutely terrific music, for example). I hope it gets better... but put it this way, so far, I can't imagine them filling the Royal Albert Hall with people wanting to hear it in concert.

Seriously? The plot was Alien vs Predator, the music was mostly nondescript and Jodie Whittaker (apparently the greatest thing to happen to Doctor Who since the series was created in 1963 (she isn't)) was like an even more hyper David Tennant - but less comfortable with the slightly clunky dialogue! That's harsh, it was the first episode, but the hyperbole surrounding it is puzzling to say the least.
