Congrats to Intrada, Varese and the other labels for their exciting releases this holiday season. I had no idea ALIEN was coming. Here's what you can expect from FSM the last weeks of 2007 and early 2008.

There will be two new releases likely the first week of December: a 2CD set (Golden Age Classics) for $24.95 -- our first release of this composer's music -- and a 1CD release (Silver Age Classics) for $19.95 featuring two highly lauded scores from the 1970s.

The BLUE BOX is at the midway point of manufacturing. (No, it does not contain "Midway." Stop searching for hidden meanings. It does not contain "The Hidden.") At this point we are crossing our fingers to have it ship before Xmas; if it is ready beforehand, we'll announce it then.

The BLUE BOX will contain 8 discs and a 160-page hardcover illustrated book in packaging a la the Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection -- here we have 8 discs in 2 butterfly cases (not 12 discs in 3 cases). The price was going to be $139.95 but we've gone out on a limb and reduced that to $119.95.

There will be a first pressing of 3,000 box sets. We have not decided upon any "limited" status; it will be a case of supply and demand. It costs a small fortune to manufacture, so if the first 3,000 were to sell out, we may do more copies in the same configuration, an altered "second edition" -- or nothing at all. It will all depend! If too many people tell us, "Ah, I'll get it later, it's not limited" you can bet we'll elect to stop at the 3,000 -- or throw half the run in the dumpster to get our money back on the first half.

But I think it's safe to say we'll move a lot of these...and you should plan on spending $119.95 plus shipping. Because it contains one of the most famous and beloved scores of all time.

More to come...

Lukas

Methinks I sense a Steiner coming.

Or maybe a Korngold....

C'mon, git aspeculatin'.

Is this the debut of the Warners plundering? Could it be Korngold or Steiner for the 2CD? What two 70s scores fit one CD? That blue affair has no blue significance at all, so what IS it? I sense big things down the pipe.

In that case, I'd say the Blue Box is the Gerhardt Classic Film Scores series.

Gone With the Wind is the most famous and beloved score of the lot, and that's featured in Gerhardt's series.

But Lukas ruled that out some time ago.

Either Korngold's Kings Row or Steiner's Helen of Troy. Either way, a musical feast worthy of the festive season!

'Golden Age Classics' is plural, so it's at least two scores. 'Sea Hawk' and 'Captain Blood?' Or any of a host of Steiners?

That's a pity. I'd have welcomed that set!
What else qualifies as one of the most famous and beloved scores of all time?
ET? Dr. Zhivago?

Another blow. Helen of Troy would have been especially welcome. So it looks like the closest we've got is that it'll be a Korngold or Steiner. I'd expect a Korngold then, seeing as it's the 50th Anniversary of his passing away.
One could still be King's Row, on one well-filled CD.

Kings Row will be released by Turner Rhino probably middle of next year. Brandon Carroll is writing the liner notes.

Brendan Carroll wrote this on October 1st in the Korngold message board:

"I just signed off the cover art so, yes, I think it must be mid OCT.
I had no idea there was a bootleg double. On what label and where can it be found?

KINGS ROW is paired with the complete SEA WOLF by the way. Both have been superbly remastered and sound better than they ever have before...bootlegs or no.

Extensive notes & rare photos/materials from the Warner archives will make this the definitive issue and a "must have". It is being released in a LIMITED edition of 3000 copies only..so buy your copy (s) without fail."

So the liner notes must have been ready for a LONG time!!!

Second that.

What's the point in keeping the content a secret now?

I doubt that score that is available in probably half a dozen versions would be so thrilling that everyone might be interested in this box... We'll see... can't wait for the announcement smile

I guess Lukas wants the CDs in his hands ready for shipping before releasing further details.

Why, surely you must understand the import of the Flail Factor with these releases. Why, it's part of the ritual.

Because it contains one of the most famous and beloved scores of all time.

I'm still puzzled over what that could be... a score that would be eagerly wanted by die-hard soundtrack collectors, that is also (apparently) loved by the general public.

I can't see much beyond Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, Wizard of Oz, Dr. Zhivago, and ET (plus any number of Disney scores). Any other suggestions for what would qualify?
