Congrats to Intrada, Varese and the other labels for their exciting releases this holiday season. I had no idea ALIEN was coming. Here's what you can expect from FSM the last weeks of 2007 and early 2008.
There will be two new releases likely the first week of December: a 2CD set (Golden Age Classics) for $24.95 -- our first release of this composer's music -- and a 1CD release (Silver Age Classics) for $19.95 featuring two highly lauded scores from the 1970s.
The BLUE BOX is at the midway point of manufacturing. (No, it does not contain "Midway." Stop searching for hidden meanings. It does not contain "The Hidden.") At this point we are crossing our fingers to have it ship before Xmas; if it is ready beforehand, we'll announce it then.
The BLUE BOX will contain 8 discs and a 160-page hardcover illustrated book in packaging a la the Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection -- here we have 8 discs in 2 butterfly cases (not 12 discs in 3 cases). The price was going to be $139.95 but we've gone out on a limb and reduced that to $119.95.
There will be a first pressing of 3,000 box sets. We have not decided upon any "limited" status; it will be a case of supply and demand. It costs a small fortune to manufacture, so if the first 3,000 were to sell out, we may do more copies in the same configuration, an altered "second edition" -- or nothing at all. It will all depend! If too many people tell us, "Ah, I'll get it later, it's not limited" you can bet we'll elect to stop at the 3,000 -- or throw half the run in the dumpster to get our money back on the first half.
But I think it's safe to say we'll move a lot of these...and you should plan on spending $119.95 plus shipping. Because it contains one of the most famous and beloved scores of all time.

Is this the debut of the Warners plundering? Could it be Korngold or Steiner for the 2CD? What two 70s scores fit one CD? That blue affair has no blue significance at all, so what IS it? I sense big things down the pipe.

In that case, I'd say the Blue Box is the Gerhardt Classic Film Scores series.
Gone With the Wind is the most famous and beloved score of the lot, and that's featured in Gerhardt's series.
But Lukas ruled that out some time ago.

'Golden Age Classics' is plural, so it's at least two scores. 'Sea Hawk' and 'Captain Blood?' Or any of a host of Steiners?

So the liner notes must have been ready for a LONG time!!!

Why, surely you must understand the import of the Flail Factor with these releases. Why, it's part of the ritual.
