Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. With such interest in Boy on a Dolphin on the Intrada site I thought it might be prudent to enquire about another Friedhofer jem. This time it's Hondo a rather excellent western film benefiting from a strong joint score effort from Hugo Friedhofer and Lionel Newman. The soft, wistful, love score by Lionel Newman would become the theme for TV/s LARAMIE. Friedhofer offered us one of his best main titles for the famous scene of Wayne walking into close-up out of the desert and action set pieces for the cavalry, Apaches and final climatic battle. Is this tied up in a Wayne / Batjac complication...?? I love the small music excerpts on the Hondo figurine from Franklin Mint.. Anyway. You have my apologies Nathan

(The notes on the soundtrack lp There was a soundtrack?)???. Gentlemen and Ladies A soundtrack LP for Hondo ?. I really don't think so , though , especially on this, I would love to be wrong. With Vera Cruz and One Eyed Jacks it stands as one of mystro Friedhofers classic offerings to the western genre. He did others, sic westerns, but these three each offer more variety of interest. This is indeed a golden age for collectors. But the Wayne vaults with Eathan, I believe, in control are locked tight. Look at all the goodies.. With apologies..and delight..if I'm wrong. Nathan

If there was a soundtrack LP, it would have to have been a very OBSCURE release that I'm not aware of. Even if some masters still exist on this, it would probably be complicated by the fact that Paramount now has the video rights to it.

A question for vinylscrubber. Sir I respect your judgement and call on all LP'S and CD'S. Can you please advise me whether there ever was a legitimate release for Hondo. I , possibly, though less extensively, have a large collection of LP'S and associated advertising material. There is not one mention of Hondo . It's driving me crazy. With apologies Nathan

Mr. Homa calls it right and true. I'd love to think that this might someday see the light of day though. And, Ron is, no doubt, right about where you remember those credits from. The same team was credited on both HONDO and ISLAND. As far as Emil Newman is concerned, the only solo scores of his that sort of stick in my mind are for a couple of mid-50's gulity pleasures for me--RETURN TO TREASURE ISLAND (with Tab Hunter as Jim Hawkins' son) and THE STEEL LADY with Hunter, Rod Cameron, and the then ubiquitous John Dehner.

I don't recall seeing HONDO on any compilation, for what it's worth. I'm pretty comprehensive in that department. Ron Burbella I think you and I are the MOST comprehensive in that department and I have never seen Hondo anywhere.
