As much as I would absolutely love a super-duper Rocky set covering all six scores, I'm going to have to play Devil's Advocate here and point out that the main reason this would be unlikely is that the album rights for Rocky's I-III (not sure about V) are held by Capitol/EMI, and they're as likely to allow Varese (or whoever) to release this material as they are likely to let them release an expanded Thunderball/Moonraker/A View To A Kill (etc), or for that matter to allow Warner Bros records to release the Beatles back catalogue! So unfortunately the rather disappointing Rocky 30th Anniversary Edition is probably the best we can hope for for the foreseeable future.
However... the Rocky Balboa CD did not actually contain any of Conti's score. So would this allow for the chance that this may be released at some point? Similar to how they were able to include in the Fox Box the bits of Alien that weren't on the original album without having to negotiate with album rights holder Universal?
In fact, aren't the original Rocky albums re-recordings rather than the film tracks? I'm negating the first part of my post here with this line of thinking, but I really would like such a set!

Yes, the Rocky albums are re-recordings. Another reason I think Varese might release a Rocky box set is because they said they're only releasing four titles in this batch which is not many. So I think one of the titles is a box set.
I have been obsessed with this music since watching it on TV as a little kid. I think Frank Comstock was involved but I'm not certain.
I would love a CD release, but most of the music is only brief bumpers between segments and before commercials. I'm sure it's all on DVD with little if any narration to distract.

Speaking of Rocky Balboa (i.e. the most recent movie in the series), how much NEW material did Conti compose for that movie?
Just wondered as for obvious reasons the film recycled many of the existing themes - certainly from Rocky 1 and 2 anyway (which was fine by me!) - but just wondered if there actually IS much "new" material out there to make use of (from Rocky Balboa)..
If not a complete Rocky box, I want a complete Friday the 13th box of manfredinis music Rocky or Jason??? place your bets!!! Why not Sylvester Levays Cobra or Jan Hammers Dark Angel?

I love that Jan Hammer opening theme from Dark Angel, one of my first film music memories. Went searching for the soundtrack but found out it was never relesead.
At least we've got 3 (4) tracks from Levay's Cobra, even Skyline which was not in the movie.
I was always disappointed in the original releases. Particularly the fact that the version of "Gonna Fly Now" on III was taken from the other albums. My cassette I bought years ago had the version from II. The Cd I bought more recently has the version from I.

Rocky Balboa had a few original tracks;
-A great re-working of "Alone in the Ring / Vigil" used during the beginning and ending of the film (both grave site scenes).
-Rocky at the market place (also used in the end title music).
-Mason's theme - this was a slowed down instrumental version of "It's a Fight" which ironically sounds very Bill Conti (although he is not credited for the song).
-Marie's Theme - underscoring the scene where she's giving Rocky advise in the car - "fighter's fight".
-The last round of the fight when Rocky gets knocked down and tell's himself to "get up". This piece of music starts out with strains of "Going the Distance" but then segues into something entirely new.
Incidently for the record, not one single Rocky soundtrack contains anything that was actually used in the films (songs not included). All Conti music (and DiCola for that matter) is rerecorded for the albums and then regurgitated on later releases.
Lastly, the new version of Gonna Fly Now in Rocky Balboa is awesome! It's a crime that this new recording was not featured on the Rocky Balboa - The Best of Rocky CD.

I was always under the impression that although the 1st album was obviously a re-recording that the end titles "Rocky's Reward" was the same version an in the film and that the Rocky II album also contained the original tracks save that 'disco' re-recording of "Gonna Fly Now" ?
The version of "Conquest" in the film of III appears to be a heavily re-edited version of the album track to fit the action but this did have a great re-recording for the opening of V which along with some the great music in "Rocky Balboa" deserves a commercial release.
