Not sure if this was brought up already, but is there even an indication that this ebay item is the real thing?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Avatar-Best-Original-Score-by-James-Horner-3-Disc-Set_W0QQitemZ390164850662QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMusic_CDs?hash=item5ad7a327e6

"DISC 1 has 21 Tracks . Running Time :54 minutes
DISC 2 has 21 Tracks. Running Time :63 minutes
DISC 3 has 9 Tracks. Running Time 30 minutes"

My apologies if its not allowed to post or discuss this. If it is not allowed, please delete this topic.

As far as my information goes, this is indeed legit.

Thank you, Dan! So this is basically the complete score? Looks a lot like it. And the high number of bids indicates that people are crazy for it.

I thought that the Academy stopped producing 'For Your Consideration' promos because of the problems with them being bootlegged. Clearly, if this 3 CD promo is legit, that is no longer the case.

"I thought that the Academy stopped producing 'For Your Consideration' promos because of the problems with them being bootlegged."

I remember reading that some persons or institutions related to scoring took actions against the decision that no promos shall be produced anymore and that these actions have brought the academy promo back. Can't remember the details though.

If I'm not mistaken this isn't an Academy Awards exclusive release. I'm sure Horner could use this to send to other organizations (Golden Globes), print and radio for review, etc.

Not that this a particularly "fine, new item", but where would one go to get such an "item"? big grin

Ah, the seller is Heavy Rotation. I used to shop at their store back in the 90's. Found a lot of good stuff there. smile

Be an Academy member. Or know one.

Maybe I can set up a Faux review deal, or some sort of Film Score Review board that people think is legitimate. Do you think that might work? I mean, we are talking free scores, here! C & C, too!

Think about it--be it promo or "for your consideration" disk, who (but us pathetic fanboys) is going to wade through 147 minutes of music--really? Only the chronically unemployed academy member? Or a producer with lots of time on his hands and a load of money to hire James Horner?

I'm sure it will fetch a ton, no matter what.

I wouldn't mind having the opportunity to listen to 147 minutes of Avatar music.

The reality is however, that apart from robbing a bank, or stealing the Sunday collections or some other unlawful method of getting hold of a lot of money fast, this wonderful item is way beyond my reach.

Sigh.........................................

I wouldn't worry, it will be on the internet soon enough. I know I'm pretty excited to listen to this.

Funny how many here are salivating for this after hating on Horner for the score.

Imagine how many great score releases you could buy for the amount this "promotional copy" will sell.

Plus I'm sure if you date Horner's daughter you could obtain this for free.
