From my research, I've noticed that there was not much discussion on this score (one thread in the Ghostbusters 1 and 2, with not many comments). So I figured I would start one for Ghostbusters 2 on it's own.

What are people's thoughts on this?

Some like it, consider it one of Edelman's best efforts, and would like a score release. Some consider it irrelevant next to Bernstein's original and don't want a score release (because if it's released they *have* to buy it, right?).

I haven't seen the film in a number of years and don't remember the score at all. Maybe I'll watch it again one of these days.

Easily one of Edelman's best scores. Hands down. He doesn't use the Ghostbusters theme unfortunately but what he did write was great stuff. You can't just say it's irrelevant's to Bernstein's because they are two different scores and movies altogether. One great the other not so good. His score was the best thing about the movie anyway. It's Apple and Oranges. OF course, Bernstein's score is great because it's Bernstein! You have to give Edelman some credit and it wasn't his fault the movie failed. He did his best and his score it's only saving grace.

I'd definitely buy a release of this one for sure.

Personally, I enjoy both films a great deal. I'd love to own Edelman's score. Yeah, some of it is typical late-80s/early-90s Edelman, but I'm not really complaining. And I really like the theme he created for the Ghostbusters. smile

I would buy almost any Edelman. The man is grossly overlooked and has a lot of music without a score release at all. Just check out his Leap Year, Beethoven, Dragonheart, and Gettysburg music. It's wonderful stuff. His Leap Year score from early this year is a departure from his earlier 'sound' , but it is one of his best. A nice, tender theme, soft piano music, and Irish jig-like pieces make this 76-minute album a fun listen.

I've always been a fan of Ghostbusters II and I still think the courtroom scene is hilarious.

As for the score, I like it. It's not Bernstein but I don't think it's bad either or somehow unworthy. I'm not a big fan of some of the "cutesy" music that plays over certain establishing shots but I like the scary music and I've always enjoyed the heroic fanfare for the Ghostbusters that Edelman came up with (you can hear it best over the shot of the four guys walking up to the slime-covered museum).

If this is ever released, I'll pick it up in a heartbeat. The DVD has no extras so any behind the scenes info provided in the booklet would be much appreciated. smile

I'd also recommend Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and Leave It to Beaver.

Yes I LOVE Leap year! It's one of my favorite Edelman scores. His mummy score is fantastic too.

Ghostbusters 1&2 are favorite movies of mine and I find the music extremely, let's say, mesmerizing. However there are several moments where the emotional music-boost it's done with an instrumental part from a "song" and not a soundtrack orchestral piece by Bersntein or Edelman, so I think a soundtrack CD for this movies should have at least several songs from the already released mostly-songs soundtracks.

That said I find that the music (songs and score) in these movies are not usual. I mean, there are really funny, chilling, moving and exciting pieces and they work beautifully together as these moments do in the picture and they do it seamlessly. They gel together instead of a mish-mash of moments. And that's not easy.

I'd also love to get Edelman's score. I can still hum the prologue, courtroom attack, sewer scenes, love theme, and main theme from memory. It may be more heroic and less spooky than Bernstein's, but I'm glad he put his own stamp on the series (if two movies counts as a series).

I'm still trying to figure out why New Jack Swing and Ghostbusters were supposed to be a good fit, songtrack wise.

Does anyone know how much score Edelman wrote?

Don't release this on my account. For just about any reason you could imagine...

How's Beethoven compared to something like... Kindergarten Cop?

Edelman's score for Hostbusters 2 was pretty much the only thing I liked about the film.

But I then I love Edelman's stuff. Just wish he would do more.

And at the risk of repeati g myself his theme for MacGyver is just the best.tv.theme.ever!

I love the Ghostbusters 2 score too, and on the subject of Edelman, I would really, really love V.I. Warshawski and I don't care if I have to buy all 1000 copies myself.

Would it be possible to get an actual album release?
