Duncan Jones (director of MOON, and the son of David Bowie) is directing a new action-thriller titled SOURCE CODE. The film is about a government experiment program that enables a soldier to cross over into another man's identity in the last 8 minutes of his life to help prevent a terrorist attack. It all seems pretty interesting, and I thought MOON was a refreshing film. The trailer for SOURCE CODE is a bit blah and ordinary looking compared to the moody and unique MOON, which was scored by Clint Mansell. Jones recently just announced that Clint was unable to complete his score for SOURCE CODE due to scheduling issues. (BLACK SWAN?) Instead, Jones' editor suggested that he hire Chris Bacon. Bacon is the funny-named protege of James Newton Howard, although his name is less funny now that he dropped his middle initial, P. He will be recording the score with a 70-piece orchestra this week I am told. Could be interesting. Bacon's previous outtings as a solo composer consist of primarily schlocky animated films and Lifetime Channel movies. I am excited to see what he might bring to a project with considerably better source material, sorry for the pun, and I am always glad to see young composers break out from under the wings of their mentors. There is no word on a release yet for a cd soundtrack, but the film is due in April. I assume Summit will likely release the cd themselves, if anyone does.

Hopefully Bacon can produce a sizzler, but his record so far is a little streaky. If he can lean back, the film might be cured.

I've already heard this score and it's very good. There are strains of JNH's style in it and a cue or two that will remind you of Williams' Minority Report. (Thanks to the temp track) I was surprised to like it as much as I did and it does have a very nice main theme as well. It's looking more and more like Bacon is getting his sizzle.

I wonder if Kevin had to deal with this when breakin' in to Hollywood

Just got back from the film. Really liked the score. To me it sounded a lot like Powell's thriller/action mode. Looking forward to the release. BTW, it's a really nice mind-bender of a film. If you can get your head around the quantum realities (which our local film reviewer can't), it's an excellent ride.

The PDF Booklet list the orchestrator and performers but not the name of the orchestra. I can upload it for you if you like... I don't think that is illegal is it?
