I saw on the Intrada boards in the suggestion topic that some others had pretty recently mentioned taking on Dune.
If this was a Universal movie, does that mean that simply they own the rights, or are there different companies involved with the movie companies that control those rights. I'm still learning more about how this industry works thanks to these boards

How incomplete is the existing limited edition release? That's getting hard to find... I can see it being repressed out of scarcity rather than out of the need for expansion. The existing release has always seemed fairly complete to me.
When I first made the thread, I did a search for Dune to see if there were any topics saying anything like "Expanded" or "Complete". Since your thread had said "Remastered", I must have assumed that it was talking about the same soundtrack that is out now, but just heavily reworked (as that thread obviously indicates, the second release, while having much more music, had some audio problems...)

A complete Dune is on my grail list. There's a full half hour of unreleased material. Some really good stuff too. Although the remaining stuff in the film sounds edited, so it's likely that even more material exists.
The big plus in getting a furthur expanded edition would be to hear the Film Version of the End Credits. It has an orchestral overlay that's absent from the album version. The strings and brass used are divine to my ears.
Agreed. I like that there was an expanded edition released, but it has some sound quality defects at times that hopefully could be corrected with a better source or mastering. Plus, some tracks present on the expanded edition that are also on the original album are missing some of the percussion overlays from the latter, such as in "First Attack" and "Robot Fight". It's important to keep the original album for this reason, plus Eno's "Prophecy Theme" and other differences.
Universal only held domestic distribution as it was financed by Dino De Laurentiis. His estate could have the music rights. Then or Toto (who are still together).
Yes, a complete-dune is also on top of my grails-list!!! I cannot remember how often I rewatched certain parts of the movie to be able to hear certain cues.
I'm always on the fence of starting my own thread about this, just to make certain people aware that there's indeed a demand for an even further expanded (and remastered!) release!

There were two issues of the PEG edition. One had switched stereo channels and greater distortion, the other corrected the stereo issue and some of the distortions, but not all. Several of the mixes on the PEG album are different from what appears on the PolyGram album.
There is still quite a bit of music from the film that isn't released, and as has been pointed out, the film has a different version of "Take My Hand" with orchestra and choir that is beautiful (if subject to an oafish edit right in the middle of it).

I saw this topic on the front page of discussion and was excited that someone brought up Dune, then I realized it was my own thread from almost a year ago haha.
Glad this was bumped, as I've never realized that Take My Hand in the movie is different than the track on the CD. It's great to see that others would like to see a complete Dune as much as I would!

Hmmm... I am listening now to the expanded score received yesterday. It's been so long since the last time I listened to the original album that it's like the first time. Will need to compare though. Thanks for the info!

What?? According to Paich's Facebook page they will be starting new recording sessions in early 2014. Though who the band consists of may not be clear. (Personally, if it doesn't have a Paich, a Lukather and at least one Porcaro then it ain't Toto!)
