I am looking forward to the movie as well as the soundtrack. Can't wait to hear what Giacchino does with this!

The preview looked awful, but I'm always down for a Giacchino score.

The preview IS really disappointing. A March release doesn't give me much confidence either. But it's an Andrew Stanton film of John Carter. That's got to be encouraging!

There is a beautiful 10 minute suite on www.michaelgiacchinomusic.com in very high quality. The stunning main theme reminds me of "Stranger in Paradise" from Kismet, which is a bit distracting, but I do love what I am hearing, and look forward to purchasing the cd.

So glad this is getting a nice, long release by Disney! I see the punny track titles (But no "World's Worst" track) and the last track is probably an epic 9-minute suite. However, the album art is a bit lacking.

We've truly been blessed lately with long Giacchino OSTs (Super 8, Mission Impossible 4, John Carter) as well as OSTs that already contain (more or less) the complete score (Land of the Lost, Let Me In, Monte Carlo).

It's awesome!

However, the album art is a bit lacking.

The whole advertising campaign for the film has been a bit lacking, sadly, starting with the decision to call the film JOHN CARTER rather than A PRINCESS OF MARS or even JOHN CARTER OF MARS. If it's true that this decision is because MARS NEEDS MOMS flopped, I have to say that is really silly. Mars had been around for quite a while before that film was made!

It's possible the film may still be good (after all, the early trailers and posters for AVATAR were not very encouraging), but however it turns out at the very least we'll have gotten what seems to be shaping up to be an awesome Giacchino score out of it! big grin

From my understanding, the excision of the word "Mars" came from research that showed that women reacted badly to the word "Mars" in a title (men being from there, presumably). Research like this is often very silly, but it's not as silly as the "Mars Needs Moms" theory, which I think is an internet invention. (Andrew Stanton says the idea to remove "Mars" was his idea, and maybe it was.) As for "A Princess of Mars," I think that title would indeed be box office poison.

I'm not a big fan of the graphic design of the poster -- it's just not my thing -- but I do appreciate that at least they're trying something graphically interesting. The movie looks like a terrible combination of portentousness and silliness.

There was a building over by LAX that had 2 ads on it for this movie. One was the above image that is the same as the CD cover and other I think was this one:

These were on the building after Christmas and were gone by early January. I don't understand the timing on the ads. They were up and gone way too early.

SPOILER ALERT

After "The Fight For Helium", the track "Not Quite Finished", followed by "Thernabout" gives me the impression that Matai Shang is behind the failure of the atmosphere plant. Since it seems definite that the Thern medallion is how Barsoom/Earth transportation happens in this movie, I'm guessing John Carter is forcibly sent back to Earth by Matai Shang.

With the track "Ten Bitter Years", I really hope the final shot is John Carter ascending back to Barsoom after his return to Earth, leaving his diary for Edgar Rice Burroughs to find.

I suspect this might be released through Intrada, one of their up-to-10k-while-interest-lasts special editions, through their contract with Disney.

I believe Disney are partnering through Intrada to effectively outsource their CD releases, so this would fit with that. smile

I was thinking of the Special Editions we've been getting, such as Up (which is under Disneyland Records as well as Intrada) and The Black Hole, combined with the fact that it is a Special Edition.

But then again, I could so easily be wrong.
