The program for the 5th Krakow Film Music Festival has been announced today;

http://www.fmf.fm/en/14/277/278/programme

Guest lineup: Reinhold Heil, Johnny Klimek, Julie Taymor, Elliot Goldenthal & Wojciech Kilar.

Thursday 24 may

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Full film screening with live music
World premiere of the simultaneous performance

Friday 25 may

Wojciech Kilar.
Festive 80th Birthday Gala

Live film music by Wojciech Kilar illustrated with movie clips

Saturday 26 may

Part I: Alien – The Biomechanical Symphony
suites from: Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection

Part II: Elliot Goldenthal's Cinema of Art & Blood
suites from: Frida, Titus Andronicus, Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, and others.

Very impressive lineup and program, having missed the Alien concert in Spain couple of years ago it's very tempting with all the added Goldenthal material. I loved Perfume and am a fan of Kilar's scores. The airflight to Krakow is very cheap from Belgium so I'm definitely looking into logistics.

Anyone been to this festival before?

Oh no! Goldenthal is coming over AGAIN!? Man....that means I should come. But since I've already landed on LA in August, I can't seem to justify the expenses.

Never been to this festival, but I've always wanted to come...especially because of the city itself.

It looks very intriguing with the concerts taking place in the arcelor mittal tinning plant. Perfect setting for an Alien concert. smile

Any chance to meet any of the guests there in person for a signing or anything like that???

I've been there (here exactly, I'm from Krakow smile) last year (Hisaishi) and 3 years ago (Shore/Kaczmarek). Every year are conferences with fans, when autographes can be collected smile

Cool! I might be going then smile
If the problem with trasportation after the concert from last year is fixed by the organizers.
Also it would be good to know when exactly are these conferences, as there is nothing about them on the program.

Isn't it possible to get to the city center via tram or bus after the concert(s)?

I just did a cost triangulation....just for fun.

The cheapest airplane ticket from Norway is with Ryan Air, and it's about 1300 NOK, $225. Quite expensive for Poland. Hotels were rather expensive too -- found one for about 1500 NOK ($260) from Wednesday to Sunday. That was among the cheapest found that were close to the city centre. I had imagined it was cheaper. It was when I went to Warzaw a couple of years ago.

So about $500 plus living expenses....I don't know.

For me the airplane ticket is a lot cheaper (60 euro also via ryanair), and there are hostels in Krakow, much cheaper alternative to hotel (go to booking.com and select hostel, sort by price), you'll see that there are rooms available for 10-20 euro per night.

Plane & festival tickets aside, I think a budget of 200 euro will suffice easily. The tickets for the festival are insanely cheap.

Ah, yeah, that's much cheaper airfare. That's what you get for livin' down on the continent!

I thought about hostels, but realize I'm too old for that. I prefer to have my own room (alternatively share with people I know very well). I can't take snoring!

But you're right...I found a couple of hostels that offer single rooms with their own bathroom.

I'm awaiting feedback from the arrangers (if I'm going, I'll be using a press accreditation again), and if it's OK with composer interviews etc. -- and the airplane tickets are still reasonable -- I might throw myself around and join this too!

Yes, there wasn't dedicated signing session, but some of us were lucky enough: smile

Last year it was a problem indeed. There were regular buses only, without any extras. I hope this time it will be fixed.

Infuriating! For the fifth year running, my wife will get to see all the concerts (our house is a half-hour bus-ride from the venue) and I'll be stuck here in Saudi Arabia - the only country in the world where orchestral music is banned!

Ouch.

I was in Dubai in 2010, but seem to remember plenty of orchestral music here and there. Strange that Saudi Arabia is that much different.

I don't want to get into any political/religious discussion here, suffice to say that Dubai - which itself is no great shakes on the democracy front - is a paragon of Islamic liberalism compared to Saudi Arabia.

Incidentally, I'll be back in Krakow for the 7th Film Music Festival (if there is one), so if you want to pay a visit to this gorgeous city then, you're more that welcome to come over and listen to my extensive collection of C&C soundtracks...

I just need to get the press access in order.

But airplane and hotel already booked.

See you there?
