I think this deserves its own thread.

Great news! Of course I own the original 1989 soundtrack (20 minutes of score), plus an unmentionable (70 minutes or so), but a 2CD-set is splendid. I really hope the liner notes are of high quality, how about recent interviews with both Zimmer and Ridley Scott, and an in-depth analysis of the score?

Is there a release date yet?

If this is true, I is happy.

I don't understand the need for this at all; the film was pretty lousy and the score sub-par Vangelis at best. There's surely more deserving scores that deserve the La La Land 2-disc treatment.

Oh well, I guess some will get very excited about this.

Indeed, in your opinion.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film and I can't wait to acquire the official complete release of the score.

Oh, and it's sure to be a big seller for La La Land.

Well, I am excited, this alongside Bird On A Wire and Cool Runnings is Zimmer`s best scores in my opinion.

This was terrific news. I have always loved the score to Ridley Scott's film. It fit the movie like a glove and is one of the best parts of the film. Glad to see this happen. Have to break out the original release and give it a spin to get ready for it (I will try to be patient). If memory serves correctly, Shirley Walker was working with Hans Zimmer at that point of time.

Thanks LLLR

Of all the titles listed in the Comic Con thread, this is definitely the one that jumped right out at me.

The suite on the soundtrack album represents the best moments of the score, but I'm really excited to hear what LLL's restoration can do with the rest of it. It's such a moody, textural work, and hearing it fully remastered will be like hearing it for the first time. And if nothing else, it'll be great to have new clarity in the album tracks.

As for the movie, I've always wanted to like it more than I do. Every couple of years I'll give it another chance, thinking this will be the time I'll find what I've been missing, but every time I come away feeling appreciation for the technical craftsmanship but little else. In the end it's just too bloated and ponderous to keep me engaged. Which is a shame, because Douglas, Garcia and Takakura and great chemistry.

Well if that is the case, I can't wait for an expanded THE ABYSS and LICENSE TO KILL.

Thankyou La La Land - this is one of my grails. I remember rushing back home from Virgin Records after buying the soundtrack on vinyl.

I had never heard any score like that in a film before. Growing up listening to Barry, Goldsmith, Horner and Williams, Zimmer's sound was unique to me in the summer of 1989 and I had never heard that style of electronics and orchestra blended together before. I am so glad La La Land is handling this instead of some other labels as I know it will get an excellent presentation. I'm not usually very good at predicting big sell outs but I think this could do some healthy numbers for La La Land.

The film may not be one of Scott's best, in fact it is a fairly generic cop movie, just transplated to Japan, but it is one of Scott's best use of music in a film - 1492 is also amazing. There are so many scenes where what happens in the film is tied in directly to Zimmer's score. The score is further proof that average/bad films can have good scores.

An amazing year La La Land and it keeps getting better and better.

I have to wonder too if this portends a complete DAYS OF THUNDER on the horizon. Same studio, same composer. That would be awesome. smile

Very true... Scott really lets the music have its moments. It works very well in the movie and this is a set I'm really gonna be glad to have... just superb news big grin

Release of the year for me. Played the soundtrack to death and always hated watching the film for the lone fact that I could hear all the awesome music that was unreleased. Even the suites on the soundtrack differ from it's film counterparts. MV could you give us fans an idea when this will drop??

Hang on a second, I have to find a mop because my drool is all over the floor. Summer of 89, what a great time in my life. I have some great memories of movies from then. I remember seeing Batman in the theater at a packed midnight showing, the same day I got my driver's license. Took my girlfriend to see it and the whole crowed went "ahhhh" when the batwing was a silhouette against the moon. Thank you for releasing the expanded score.

And there are other great movie music films from that summer: Field of Dreams, Dead Poets Society, The Abyss ...
