A press release I received today:

Paris, France (April 22, 2013) - Classically trained multimedia composer Olivier Deriviere (Alone In The Dark, Of Orcs And Men), whose distinctive soundtracks have been recognized by Billboard and The New York Times, has crafted a unique, electronically manipulated live symphonic score for the upcoming action adventure video game Remember Me developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Capcom. Deriviere's dynamic emotional score is intricately woven throughout Remember Me's innovative 'memory remix' gameplay experience and immersive futurist story set in Neo-Paris where personal memories are digitized, bought, sold and traded. Remember Me will launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in North America on June 4 and across Europe on June 7, 2013.

Remember Me is a 3rd person action adventure where players take on the role of Nilin, a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people's minds and steal or even alter their memories. The authorities, fearful of her knowledge and capabilities have arrested Nilin and wiped her memory clean. After her escape from prison, Nilin sets out on a mission to recover her identity, helped by her last and only friend. This search for her past leads to her being hunted by the very people that created this surveillance society. During the course of the story, Nilin will start remembering who she was and re-learning all the fighting moves that made her one of the world's leading memory hunters.

Olivier Deriviere's interactive musical score for Remember Me features live orchestra that has been digitally processed and manipulated with multiple layers and effects to create a futuristic - but entirely organic and acoustic - musical palette which reflects Nilin's memory loss and the reconstruction of her memories throughout the game.

Described by critics as "Cinematic and magnificent" (GameTrailers), "Fantastic and evocative" (IGN) and "One of the best soundtracks...this generation" (Destructoid), Deriviere's score dynamically reacts to the player's moves during gameplay and contains hidden messages about the story. Preview samples of the music are available on SoundCloud.

The score was recorded with the Philharmonia Orchestra at Air Studios in London by GRAMMY® award-winning score engineer John Kurlander and mastered at Universal Mastering Studios in Los Angeles.

Olivier Deriviere has previously scored numerous animation, film and video game soundtracks including the critically acclaimed interactive scores for Alone In The Dark, Of Orcs and Men and the Obscure video game series. Deriviere works with renowned recording studios, world-class engineers and performers, as well as employing the latest software and custom library sounds. An alumnus of Berklee College of Music (Jazz & Film Scoring) and the National Conservatory in Nice, France (Composition and Orchestration), Deriviere has recorded for games with the GRAMMY® award-winning choir The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices, The Boston Cello Quartet, The Boston String Quartet, The Children Choir of the National Opera of Paris and The Philharmonia Orchestra in London. His music has also been performed by the Cannes Symphony Orchestra, Monte Carlo String Quartet, and Utrecht Metropolitan Orchestra and Choir ("Games In Concert"). Sounds very interesting! No word yet if there'll be a commercial release of the music though. Anyone else intrigued? The game looks pretty awesome too. smile

I'm certainly interested, Deriviere scored the ambitious but flawed Alone in the Dark video game reboot a few years ago and I thought his music was excellent.

The samples on www.olivierderiviere.com are interesting, with a lot more electronics and post-processing than Deriviere normally uses. Even if there isn't an official release, people who purchase the came will probably be able to access the raw sound files.

I guess this is the answer on a commercial release!

This is a great article! I purchased the soundtrack via iTunes earlier this week and it has rarely left my ears. Fresh, inspired, energetic, and simply wonderful. Easily one of the best scores -- film music or otherwise -- released this year.

I wouldn't go that far but I really do enjoy it quite a bit. I like the approach of starting with an orchestra and adding some distortion or other effects to it. They are not as major or distracting as many of the synths you see in modern film scores. Still, it lacks the big themes to out-do scores like Mark Isham's 42 and Danny Elfman's OZ, or Bear McCreary's DaVinci's Demons. But it came out of no where for me and really beats out a lot of other stuff.

really? The music cannot breathe. The effects are way way overused. It's used every 2 seconds and never stops

So, I'm confussed. Is there going to be a physical commercial release?

I was wondering the same thing buddy. Only a few hours after I posted the link, the status changed to the "unavailable" it shows now. Can't find any word as to a CD release anywhere else...

His site had a blurb about the score being on Amazon that has since been removed; iTunes is now the only purchasing method mentioned. There was also a tweet about "assembling a physical CD" using downloadable artwork, which tells me that any physical release that may have been planned is now canceled. Too bad, but at least the music is available in some form, which is more than can be said for a lot of game music these days (like Star Trek).

The artwork link is http://t.co/cRW2d463Fi for the interested.

This score is easily one of the best scores of the year! If you enjoyed Tron Legacy, The Matrix and Die Another Day then one is for you. It's a brilliant mix of electronics, post processing and pure symphonic music. Magnificent stuff! And from the gameplay I've seen on YouTube the music works seamlessly with the visuals!

it lacks a strong theme and the processing effects are overused(and certainly not a novelty to someone who listens to a bit of electronic music).

Alone in the Dark is better, despite the poor recording

So then, tin ears for you too?

This is great. I can hear ideas from THE MATRIX, DIE ANOTHER DAY, even a bit of James Horner strings in there... but it's all been fused into something quite fresh. Finally a step forward in media music that shows equal strengths in both traditional composition and post-modern editing/mixing.

Received a promotional/digital copy of this score today, and am really looking forward to listening to it!
