Hello, those who know me know I have been touting this group down in San Pedro who do film music throughout their season. And they have become damn good at it! Steven Allen Fox has combined traditional film music presentations with a mix of the offbeat that usually isn't presented at such concerts.

In the past composers like Alan Silvestri, Christopher Young, Laura Karpman, John Ottman, Sam Spence, Richard Sherman, Stu Phillips, Irving Gertz, William Stromberg, Bear McCreary, Austin Wintory, Christopher Lennertz, Russell Brower, Wataru Hokoyama, Timothy Michael Wynn, Gerard Marino and many others have come down to have their wares presented by this world class orchestra. Here is their description of their next concert which always seems to undervalue what the concert ends up being:

Travel to a galaxy far, far away with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Yoda and Han Solo as the GSPO performs our favorite selections by legendary composer John Williams' iconic Star Wars scores, including "Star Wars: Main Title," "Imperial March," "Princess Leia's Theme," and the "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones" tragic love theme, "Across The Stars."

In 2005 GSPO performed the North American concert premiere of John Williams' "Battle of the Heroes" from "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith." The family friendly orchestra continues to introduce audiences to new repertoire by presenting music inspired by the Star Wars Universe - books, video games, fan films and spin-off films such as "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Experience music from the videogames "Star Wars: The Old Republic" and "Star Wars Kinect" and fan film "Ryan vs. Dorkman" by Kyle Newmaster and Gordy Haab. The 2013 celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the Varese Sarabande record label continues with the musical score composed by Joel McNeely and released on Varese Sarabande for the 1996 novel "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire," written by Steve Perry.

So come down, at least once, to see and hear what other's have been praising to the skies.

Oh and I have been told to update my list of composers who have come to this little picture palace by LA harbor with the GSPO:

Hans Zimmer, John Debney, Danny Elfman, Michael Giacchino, Cliff Eidelman, Don Davis, Mark Isham, Joel McNeely, Diego Navarro, John Powell, Brian Tyler and a few others.

As usual, A GSPO concert goes way further than your regular STAR WARS concert:

Got my ticket. I'm looking forward to going back to the Warner Grand. Sounds like great fun!

BTW - I put the program from last month's fabulous GSPO Varese 35th Anniversary Concert that I got signed by all of the participating composers up online in The Actors Fund Auction of 1000 Stars:

http://ibidmobile.net/af/auction

Item #713 - The Varese 35th Anniversary 4 CD box set plus two different programs from the evening with one signed by all the composers

The auction benefits The Actors Fund - a national human services organization that helps everyone - performers and those behind the scenes - in film, television, theatre, dance, radio, opera and music including composers, musicians, theatre and concert hall staff and recording industry professionals - www.actorsfund.org

Steven Allen Fox:

How often do you get the chance to see a WORLD PREMIERE of John Williams music for STAR WARS, right here in Los Angeles?

John Williams has just published a new concert suite, "Music From The Star Wars Saga," and we are very proud to announce that the Golden State Pops Orchestra will premiere selections from the suite on our June 15 season finale, including "Asteroid Field," "Here They Come," "Luke & Leia" and "Forest Battle."

World premieres only happen once, and this one's less than 3 weeks away! Get your tickets to MUSIC FROM THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE at www.gspo.com

Wow, really? Very much looking forward to this concert and eager to hear what this new concert suite from Williams might be... assuming something that would include themes from all six films.

There were surprise guests at the last concert. I wonder....

I'll pass on this one. The last concert was amazing but I don't need to go up for every one of these. I'm not as obsessed with Star Wars as a lot of other film score fans seem to be anyway.

AND for those whose only reason for not coming to see one of these incredible GSPO concerts is the cost here is a deep discount opportunity:

I have a WONDERFUL excuse on why I won't be going...I'll be in my car driving out to California to live forever and will be somewhere in Missouri or Kansas by the start of the concert. Those who can go SHOULD go. A night of Star Wars, doesn't get any better then that!

Unlikely, but they have been trying to get him to attend and at the last Williams Tribute concert they came very close to it.

Nice to see this finally selling well! Hardly any aisle seats left on the orchestra level!

Steven Allen Fox, conductor, on Facebook:

Soar arm. Lots of fast action music. Star Wars is fun.

The misspelling is his. wink

Guests or not, I'm looking forward to a rousing concert in a cool setting. Like I mentioned before many film music concerts with orchestras take place in LA at the Hollywood Bowl which, unless you've got $$$ enough to have box seats, is not intimate. At the Grand you can enjoy the orchestra and the music much closer.

Maybe his arm really was soaring with the music!
