Twice. Everybody knows that YOR dislike Zimmer's scores. But YOR tried to listen to his new album with a open mind. It is a Superman score! How bad can it be, right? Superman's scores are just like pizza: even bad it is still good! But, man, YOR was dead wrong! "Man of Steel" is by far one the worst scores YOR has ever listened in his entire life! YOR will not complain that there is NO theme for Superman in the whole score. Maybe it was the director who told Zimmer to write a score with no theme for the main character, in some kind of stupid mantra of "lets get as far as the Richard Donner / John Williams aproach as possible". But what impressed YOR the most is how generic and bland the score is. It is quite generic and blad EVEN for Zimmer's standards! It is much, much worst than his "Batman" scores, which were pretty mediocre all the way, but a least did not harm the movies... There are a lot of percussion over the album, but it's composition is quite simpleton. Sounds like a lot 12 old boys banging their neighbor's drumms all at the same time and VERY LOUD! And the orchestra and chorus... again, everybody playing and singing the same notes at the same time VERY LOUD! And YOR wonders how is it possible to make a full orchestra to sound like a cheap keyboard? Does Zimmer does on purpose, like to please 15 year old teens who think orchestras are things for old farts? Or it just sound that way because the guy has no idea how to write for orchestras? If you give this score to some average soundtrack appreciator, both on knowledge and taste, withou telling what it is, he will probably say it is the score for some Roger Corman's sci-fi from the 80's, like "Galaxy of Terror"... No way he will say it is a score for the new Superman movie from a major studio! Impressive, mr. Zimmer! I could've written YOR's MoS review in my sleep. There are some actual themes and motifs but I'd recommend one remove ass cheek headphones to hear them and process them on any kind of aural level a present-day human may have. According to the mythology of the expansive YOR universe, the future has been deprived of any kind of musical necessity so I can only imagine the sound of bones crunching and alien body slams are the kind of sounds YOR finds pleasing in any kind of melodic or rhythmic purpose.    Posted:   Jun 10, 2013 - 12:02 PM     By:   Octoberman   (Member) So who's forcing you guys to read? Zimmer could have surprised everyone and used William's theme and Yor still would not have been happy. No, not at all-I think a reasoned argument is fair enough but as with most internet forums, people push their own agendas to a level that they wouldn't dare do in polite company (or at least I hope not). Some of the nastier faeces slinging that goes on around here is very unpleasant. I am no great Zimmer fan but I am interested in hearing what he's done.
