I like them all, but THUNDERDOME is my favorite. I just received the Tadlow set and love it. Hopefully the score to FURY ROAD will be as good as the first three.

I could not agree more, the Jarre score is wonderful to listen to as a stand alone score away from the film. I think the first two are ideal in their place in each film, but away from the films I really do not enjoy them. Now this could be the album presentations of course.

But Jarre really did bring a classical touch to Mad Max where as the first two are very hard & raw, which of course suits the films as they are exactly that.

Great choice the Tadlow discs are superb.

Enjoy

regards

Jarre's score is the most listenable of all three, though May's Road Warrior has the edge for sheer dramatic effect in the film. May's elegiac theme is also one of the most emotionally stirring film themes of all time.

I agree it's great to have the expanded Tadlow CD but I was a little disappointed with the mix on some tracks. "Max's Theme-The Desert" is ruined by that digeridoo that drowns-out all the other instruments.

The Road Warrior for me, perfect for the film.
shame an expanded release is not possible, as apparently the session master tapes have deteriorated (is that a correct word?).

Also love Jarre's music

For me the Jarre's score is the better, the score is very long and he composed a extremely effective score that works very well for the film as well to listen.
The score is distribuited three big phases with different themes in each one, for me it's one of the best scores for an action movie.
In fact in 1985 Mr.Jarre was very inspired, he produced 04 great score, besides Mad Max III, he also composed The Bride, Enemy Mine and Witness, these scores are between A Passage To India and Tai-pan, great period!!!!

THUNDERDOME is still tops for me, I was so happy that Tadlow released that complete edition of the score a few years ago. I always found such a strong, engaging score in terms of melody, energy and invention. ROAD WARRIOR would be next, followed by MAD MAX, of course. I enjoy the latter for their raw, kinetic fury and that dry, brass and strings-dominated sound.

Brian May's "Max 2" is my favorite and it works beautifully in the film.

Hi buddy! When I listen to any one of the three MAD MAX scores, it is my favorite. I really can't decide which I love the most.

It's tough for me to pick a favorite. All three scores are enjoyable in their own right, imho. I find Mad Max to be the most personal of the three scores though especially during the third act. I think that score really went in the character's head psychologically. Tracks like "Max Decides On Vengeance" "We'll Give 'Em Back Their Heroes", "The Beach House' and the piece that was playing in the middle of the "Outtakes", during the montage of Max spending his vacation with his family. I enjoy all three scores equally. As much as I liked Jarre's score. It would've been interesting to hear what May had came up with for Mad Max 3. He ignored the themes from his first score in the second score. While still keeping the raw agressive tone intact. I'm sure he would've came up with something different for the third score as well, but I still very much liked what Jarre composed for Mad Max 3.

The Road Warrior.

One of the greatest scores in history, one of the most effective scores in a film which absolutely elevates that which is already great, and Brian May`s magnum opus.

Not by a few light-years it isn't. It's one of Brian May's better scores, relatively speaking, but that doesn't make it a great score (if you want May at his best, still not great, go for Missing in Action 2).

MM Beyond Thunderdome. Fine score, musically the best of the three by about a mile.

I'd have to disagree. Road Warrior is an outstanding action score, with not only an adrenal ferocity in the chase cues, but an elegiac and heart-shattering main theme (something not found in most other action scores). I'm hard-pressed to think of a better May score. I have an extensive May collection and I don't think any of his other scores come close.

In fact I thought Missing In Action 2 was a massive letdown and one of his least interesting to be honest.

That says little about its technical merits, only that you "liked" the main theme and that you were excited about the "action score".

Your comment about Missing In Action 2 -- that it is "May at his best" -- was even less technically descriptive than my comment about RW. I at least attempted to articulate my perspective.
