I was going to ask, "What is the most you have spent on one CD?", but I realized that my own answer is the $120 Superman Box set, which is, of course, 8 CDs. So................. what is the most you have spent on one item?

This thread was inspired by the "most sought after CDs" thread.

I think - $200 for the Bernard Herrmann at 20th Fox set. Money well spent.

The STAR TREK TOS box. $237 with shipping.

This.

And I honestly can't think of any soundtrack-related item that I would ever spend more for. It would have to be something BIG. Hmmm? James Bond Boxed Set? Star Wars Boxed Set? Maybe...

I think I paid somewhere around 149$ for the Selected Suites 2 CD by Robert Folk. I am glad that I did, not only because it is feauring some really good music (some of it otherwise unreleased) but also because I brought it with me to the 3rd Fans of Film Music event so Robert Folk could sign it for me. So I guess if I am going to sell it someday (do not think that day will never come but who knows) I could get a lot more than those 149$ that I spent on it.

The thing that made the Star Trek TOS box set special is that most of it had never seen the light of day before (to my knowledge). James Bond and Star Wars are pretty well represented on CD, so spending over $237 for those would be undesirable, one would think. UNLESS you don't own any already.

100 € for the FSM Black Box.
For a single CD, 27.99 £ (or was it 26.99?):
GDM's MADDALENA/QUESTA SPECIE D'AMORE at London's Tower Records back in 1998.

P.S.: By the way, anyone else find their username set back to a previous one all of a sudden?

These are "expensive" items because they come in big boxes ...

My most expensive purchase, relative to the numer of units (1x LP), was

Walter Scharf, "Legend of the Living Sea"

Cost me around UKP 150 in the early 1990s.

Ron Jones TNG Project

The one before that was a sealed OOP copy of Varese's Predator ($100) a year after it sold out. At the time Varese released it I wasn't into the whole Limited Edition collecting thing.

I'm glad I never tracked down a copy of the Deluxe Edition for Die Hard. razz

Bought the Elfman/Burton box for about $400 - and am listening to selections from that right now, so I guess I consider that a good investment despite the shoddy quality of the box and all the extra gizmos that I don't care about. As far as a single CD, I paid a pretty penny for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (at the time it was maybe around $50) which may have been my most. Since then, I have had a mental inability to fathom paying more than $30-40 for a single CD, so mostly I just watch releases that passed me by in the past and wait patiently smile

Probably a tie between the Superman Blue Box and the Miklos Rozsa Treasury (which I got used for $125 from a fellow FSMer).

Well, obviously, the ST-TOS box set.
I don't see spending like that ever again unless it was something like a super-complete James Bond box.

I once spent $40 on a single (used, rare) disc. The most I would ever spend, I think.
But now I can't remember what album it was.

Me too for the STAR TREK set. It was actually a present from my wife, but I suppose it was "our" money!

I don't consider that too expensive at all for what it is. It might be more useful to give examples (as some of you have done) of ONE single item, as opposed to box-sets, that you shelled out loads for. In that case, I think I'd have to go back in time to about the late '70s, with my annual trips to 58 Dean Street. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they have LPs on sale for between 20 and 30 pounds? That was a lot of money back then for an LP, but I think that's what I paid for things like BARBARELLA, SCORPIO, ONE-EYED JACKS and CLEOPATRA... I think. Or is my memory playing tricks on me again? Timmer, do you remember?
