Just announced through Legendary Pictures online. I'm actually even more excited about this film than before. I cannot wait to hear what he comes up with. Clearly the director is going for more drama and realism tha loud spectacle. Hope Desplat doesn't get kicked off and replaced in the 11th hour. Fingers crossed.

No idea there was a new Godzilla moving coming, nice to see his name attached.

My most anticipated score for 2014. Hope Desplat stays on!

Powell's How To Train Your Dragon 2, Giacchino's Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Giacchino's Jupiter Ascending, Giacchino's Tomorrowland, and Shore's The Hobbit 3 for me.

2014 is a promising year for both films and scores.

It's too bad Zimmer is doing Spider-man 2 and Interstellar, and Silvestri was replaced on Captain America 2, though.

One of the few composers around I really care about!

But yikes, lots of effects guys are involved in this. I hope Frank Darabont's script is still the focus and not homogenized for the sake of effects. Good luck to all. Some interesting casting in here.

Interesting. I remember that people on Youtube we're commenting the Zero Dark Thirty score, mentioning that Desplat should be scoring Godzilla. Never thought they we're right.

I'm glad to see Desplat attached into a big proyect, since that most of his scores for this year are small, independent films. Desplat wrote some suspense material in Hostage, Deathly Hallows, Rise of the Guardians, and Zero Dark Thirty, so no wonder they chose him.

So excited at this news! I can't imagine he'll get replaced, has he ever been? (Aside from lots of his music for Casanova and Tree of Life not being used in the finished films)

Any Godzilla movie starring Juliette Binoche already has me interested, must be something more to it than just effectssmile

It's no secret that I don't really like Desplat in any form or shape -- but least of all his action material, which comes off as one long ostinato-fest without any direction or proper shape. What I've heard, anyway (I haven't heard everything he's done, of course).

So I'm rather indifferent to this news.

However, I do look forward to another GODZILLA film. I belong to those who liked Emmerich's film, and who don't really have any connection to the old Japanese ones. So more contemporary monster movies with top class production values are a-ok by me, whoever scores it.

Well, he couldn't finish Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, so Aaron Zigman was brought, and he used Desplat's themes. And he was replaced from Emperor, by Alex Heffes. But Desplat himself said that he has rejected certain proyects because he didn't liked the script. So he must've accepted Godzilla because there's more than just a big monster destroying a city.

More like, you haven't heard anything about him. Desplat's scores have a lot of diversity and variety in themes, instruments, colours, genres, sounds, and moods.

I've heard quite a lot -- in every genre -- and I think I can count the ones I DID like on one hand. Sorry, he's just not my thing. But my door is always open, of course.

His name was announced in connection with Emperor in the early stages, but I don't believe he ever wrote or recorded anything.

Don't know. But still, he was replaced.

I belong to those who liked Emmerich's film, and who don't really have any connection to the old Japanese ones.

I'm kind of the same. I saw some of the old ones here and there when I was growing up, but it's a series/genre that I just never took to. Emmerich's film is certainly no masterpiece (in fact, I think it's actually pretty terrible), but I think it's still better than the originals, except for maybe the very first one from 1954. I'm not exactly primed with eager anticipation for the new movie, but I am curious to see how it does, considering that Pacific Rim performed badly here in the US. (Which I fully expected it to.)

As for Desplat, I'm not familiar with this work (don't think I've seen any films that he scored), so I have no opinion either way on his involvement.

Very happy at the Desplat announcement of my most anticipated film.
As for the Emmerich version ( GINO !) whats the point in making a Godzilla film and dumping all the elements that make the character. Why didn't he just call in Jurassic Park 4 and be done with it!

I don't think action music is his strong suit, but that said, still glad it's not Remote Control/Beltrami/Brian Tyler again.

"He would've called it Jurassic Park III, because Godzilla came out before the actual third JP film." - Jason LeBlanc (in absentia)

Says the sweeden who love Huinzimmer, the king of boring and shapeless ostinatos!!!
