Mark Tschanz is a fine film composer (HOTEL SPLENDIDE, TEKNOLUST, FUN) and a close friend of mine (who scored my short film) that has had some tough breaks. His wife has been battling breast cancer and he has a series of blood clots. They are both on the mend but he has hospital bills and other financial woes, so he is going back to what he used to do to make ends meet, doing gigs. He is an extraordinary song writer and guitarist and even had an album of his songs released on Warner Brothers label. The trendy Hotel Café in Hollywood has given him an opportunity on October 1st at 10PM to strut his stuff and if he gets enough paying customers they will give him a regular spot. I thought I would use this forum to spread the word and help him along. There is a $10 cover charge:
This last image is from an album where he shared his score with Desplat's !
Another favorite song of mine is this one from his rocker days.
It is so good Oscar winning director Bernardo Bertolucci chose to put it in his film STEALING BEAUTY and asked him to write an end title song for the film. But that is another story....
....which, I would think, he'd be playing this Tuesday night at 10PM.
The offbeat score he wrote for the DELICATESSAN/CITY OF LOST CHILDREN style film HOTEL SPLENDIDE starring Daniel Craig and Toni Collette demanded over a dozen tangos. Here are afew cues:
Henry, thanks so much for introducing me to Mark, his music and his wife Eva at your Halloween party. I enjoyed his mini-concert a great deal. He singing is soulful and the perfect fit for his songwriting and haunting guitar work. I ordered his CD, just haven't gotten it yet.
So do you know his upcoming gig schedule? Just wondering if I do end up coming back to CA for the GSPO holiday concert, whether he might be perfoming then.
