They say if you haven't got anything nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all. So, um, let me try to say something nice about that clip: it's better than listening to Battleship. That's about as much enthusiasm as I can muster.
I'm curious whether the guys who worship at the RC altar currently will ever get another "one of these scores" & tire of it all. I mean how many hours of this stuff can you really enjoy, honestly? Now awaiting the usual defenders, where are you.....

Eh...better than Battleship. Nothing new or surprising or fresh...at least in those 90 seconds.
I admit I love the Transformers scores...yep I do. And I love Jablonsky's Steamboy score. Wish he'd have the chance to something else in that Steamboy vein, but doesn't seem to be in the cards.
And yes, endless Dark Knight sound-alikes are tiresome. But hey, I'll avoid the movie in this case and hope the score is more varied than the itty bitty samples we've heard so far

That's just the thing. Jablonsky has shown that he *can* do great, Horner-esque work. Hell, maybe he even *wants* to. But that's not what he's being hired to do. It's clear that, despite having the two top grossing films of all time under his belt, producers aren't interested in Horner's sound anymore. Like the BBC said, they want a safe score for their expensive movie, and right now safe = The Dark Knight.
Horner's disillusion was palpable in that interview. Now we can hear why.
We lament the passing of many of our most revered film score giants but would they even want to still be working in the biz today if they were still around? This sort of thing always reminds of the scene in Patton where the general is on his horse talking to the press inside what appears to be a large hanger. They tell Patton that the time is coming when battle will become machine-driven and nearly autonomous. The very thought of war without affirmation and glory horrifies him and he responds, "By God, I'm glad I won't live to see it". That seems to be where we are film music-wise.
A big blunder by the director of the picture. If I had directed a new sci-fi action picture the last thing I would want is a score that sounds like Batman or Transformers, it subjugates the picture to a lot of bias and preconception, and pushes the story and the characters to the background when it is playing.
If they replaced Horner with this, that is a major blunder to stop this film from rising above the cliche of action pictures from the last 10 years.

I see, thanks Danny, yes I was not sure about that, some things I read sounded firm on Horner, others not so much. It would be nice to hear a Horner space score again, I mean, what was the last Horner outer space score? I would not count Avatar really. I think it has been a while right?
