Is anyone else getting a "Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) as Superhero" vibe from this?
I would certainly have been interested to hear how someone might have played the old-timey CA March against the modern day setting. Yes, I suppose we heard that to an extent in Avengers.

First I will say that I’m a Chris Evans fan, having enjoyed his performances in Cellular, Fantastic Four and the surprisingly entertaining Push. So if anything, I was bias towards giving Captain America: The First Avenger a great review. However, I was really disappointed with how the film turned out and it’s one of the few Marvel movies that I didn’t buy on blu-ray after its release. I felt they spent too much time showing the character as a weakling, performing musical numbers and other things that killed the plot’s momentum. The CGI was pretty over the top and tacky looking. It didn’t exactly end gracefully either. As for Silvestri , I liked his scores for Back to the Future, Predator and Romancing the Stone- those are such memorable scores with repeated listening value. But his scores for The Avengers, Captain America , and GI Joe were cringeworthy in my opinion, so I’m starting to doubt his current abilities. I’m not too familiar with Henry Jackman. I guess I’ll have to watch/listen to X-Men: First class again to get a feel for his style. Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer looks good. Now that we’ve got the character exposition of the first film out of the way, I’m hoping the second film hits the ground running.

I'm always amazed how we (members of this board who share the same passion) could be on such an opposite opinion! And I don't want to argue with you, believe me, just express my own subjective thoughts. I don't like Chris Evans as Captain America at all. Yes, he was great as Johnny Storm, but maybe because of that every time I see him as Captain America I just can't take it seriously.
Also, it's funny how people like/dislike the same particular movie. Personally, I think Captain America The First Avenger is the best of all Marvel superhero movies made, precisely because it carries an old-fashioned feeling in it. For me, it's a movie more in the vein of Rocketeer than any of today's plain high-tech extravaganzas, both its storytelling and its original music, therefore much closer to my heart. And I ran to buy the blu-ray on release date.
[As for Silvestri, I liked his scores for Back to the Future, Predator and Romancing the Stone- those are such memorable scores with repeated listening value. But his scores for The Avengers, Captain America, and GI Joe were cringeworthy in my opinion, so I’m starting to doubt his current abilities.]
Again, I couldn't disagree more. Alan Silvestri's scores for G.I.Joe, The Avengers, and especially Captain America (on top of the three) are some of his all time bests. IMHO, the same high quality as Predator and BTTF, or at least close. These are examples of scores with real theme/counterpoint/rhythm combined, where the music is dramatic, evolves, and has something to say, as any superhero score should be!
I'm sorry, but I refuse to accept the monotonic wallpaper drones that are today's common denominator. Especially for a superhero movie score, where adventure should be the point. With regard of this, if compared with some other composer's work, I'll say Captain America could only be matched by John Powell's X-Men Last Stand.
So, I must be the only one here not happy with Henry Jackman's assignment.

I agree with most of this.Captain America is my favourite Marvel superhero and that is mainly down to Chris Evans performance.He brought a real warmth and nobility to the character.
I liked how they spent so much time with him as a weakling as it made the character all the more impressive when he got his super fit physique.
Will miss hearing the march but i guess it would be inappropriate for this kind of movie.how cool is that trailer though!

looking forward to Henry Jackman's score.
as for the CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER... it was OK. Average truth be told. Nothing big action wise, great characters but awful start and stop plot and as mentioned above, the ending was pretty terrible.
I enjoyed the cast but felt the movie could have been tighten up and I totally bought Chris Evans as Captain ESPECIALLY for how amazing physically he looks.
This new film seems to have upped the action so here is hoping its a better film.
