I think if Williams farted and burped into a wind machine and set it to a lovely tune, the academy would nom it. Isn't there an interview with Williams from 40 years or so ago in which J-Will admires Stomu Yamashta for doing essentially that in the scores for "The Devils" and Williams' own "Images"?

I don't know. I was a nurse for a dying patient here in San Diego a few years ago. The family let me set up my computer in his office. High up on a shelf were, not one, but 2 Oscars. His daughter said they'd been awarded to my patient's stepfather, Pete Smith, for comedy short subjects. Apparently, Smith actually won 4 Oscars, but the other 2 were with other relatives. Interestingly, she let me have one of those Oscars, from 1940, the year Best Picture was won by HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY (over such others as CITIZEN KANE, by the way), and, every now and then, I'd hold it and say, softly, "I just want to thank the Academy..." Funny. Those things are heavy. At least, the one from 1940 was....
