From Silva's Doctor Who mailing list...

Silva Screen is pleased to announce that they will be releasing not one, but two retrospective box sets of music to the iconic TV show. A four CD set encompassing music from all eleven Doctors' shows, including many pieces that have never before been released, is an incredible journey through the 5 decades of Doctor Who, with tracks from composers such as Ron Grainer, Delia Derbyshire, Dudley Simpson, Paddy Kingsland and Mark Ayres right through to Murray Gold. The tracklisting and release date will be announced shortly.
In addition, this year marks such a momentous anniversary for the series, Silva Screen will be releasing an 11 CD set, one for each Doctor, all presented in a specially created Tardis. This highly collectable box set is completely unique and strictly limited. For more details including when and where to pre-order the Tardis Box Set make sure you are signed up to the doctorwhomusic.com newsletter.

Thanks for the info!! That second set looks really lavish...I am sure it is going to be quite pricey.

Yeah, I'm hoping that all of the content from the 4-disc set is included in the 11-disc set, so we can avoid double-dipping to get all the music. Of course, when have we ever been so lucky? wink

Agreed there is probably some stuff exclusive to the other set. Still that second set looks very exciting, and hopefully getting it from the UK it won't have horrendous postage costs to Germany (actually thinking about it I can get it sent to my parent in laws and collect it there at Xmas -- ooohh!)

Still, first lets see how much new content there is.

"Silva Screen will be releasing an 11 CD set, one for each Doctor."

Reading that on my iPhone half asleep last night, I misread it and thought for a split second they meant an 11CD set for each doctor^^.

Corrected version^^

"Silva Screen will be releasing an 11 CD set, one CD for each Doctor."

So, my 2 pence.
1) 11 CD-set might be sold out quickly, despite price, which I think will be more than £30-50 (as one man from FB suggested this price).
2) 11 CDs, 1 CD for 1 Doctor. This mean that we will finally have official release for 8th Doctor tv-movie. This is another reason, why this set can sell well. So I hope that Silva later could re-release 8th Doctor's music as separate CD...

As for me - £50 (+/- £5-10) will means ordered without question big grin

That is the weirdest thing. I'd be very curious to know what changed.

Problem with the rights to the theme itself?

Or, perhaps Gold doesn't want it released (or feel it needs to be).

Or they're saving it for the 50th sets (why??)

Is there any chance these 11 discs will be released individually? I have no interest in the music from the dreadful McGann TV film or the Russell Davies incarnation of Doctor Who.

I wonder if they found more Dudley Simpson music? I'm mostly interested in the 3rd and 4th Doc's music.

I thought I read somewhere that Gold was never happy with having to use the original DOCTOR WHO theme at all. Apparently he would have preferred to write his own theme music, but was overruled by producers (and fans wouldn't be too happy either, I imagine).
One of the few places he had control was on the CDs and he was perfectly happy to leave off the theme. But I'm reading between the lines, so I may be wrong.

I've read and listened to a lot of his interviews and don't recall reading or hearing anything remotely like that^^.

Its very simple -- when dealing with multiple releases of a tv show why bother putting the same theme on yet again when you can put NEW music on it.

Case in point -- Battlestar Galactica -- We didn't put the theme on Seasons 3 or 4.
