We can only use the current paper and discs already printed so the quantities are based on the availability of those items.
Sae: still not following. Don't you have masters? Or are you saying if extras laying around? If so how was repressing for the three or was that different and actually newly created?

I think they print all the paper work (artwork) up front. But don't press all the discs unless they need too. So they are pressed on demand up to the limit of their licensing agreement.
So they had 300 copies of the printed art for Superman already in their hands, but did not have the last 300 discs pressed yet. Their not really expanding any of the releases, just finishing the runs. That's my guess.

That makes sense but said discs already printed. Artwork on disc?
Awesome news! I'm getting King Kong and hoping I will be able to buy the Superman box set before it is sold out for good. Anyone care to guess how long the 300 copies will last? I will order on day one, hopefully that will be do the trick.
I managed to get King Kong, but was so disappointed I had missed out on Wild Bunch. This is happy news indeed! I'll be getting that and (hopefully) the Blue Box.

When the titles are first released all of the paper (booklets and tray cards) and CDs are printed and pressed with the music. Usually 100% of those items are then packaged into cases and sealed and ready to be sold, in some instances the paper and CDs are boxed up awaiting to see how sales go or get over printed and are then either put into storage or go back to the pressing plant to be fully packaged for further sales.
In the case of these titles it was extra paper and discs that we found and are getting them put in cases and sealed so we can offer the full amount of the titles to the customers. Not every release has extra pieces available so that is why it is only a select few titles we can do this for.
Back in December 2011, in his Low Quantities Report Part 8, Lukas had this to say about the Superman box set:
We made 3,000 units of the first pressing which sold out rapidly, but we had some manufacturing issues with a broker using inferior binding (we had him removed from the project). We then made a second pressing of 3,000 units (as well as extra books to replace ones that were falling apart) and have been packaging those with finished discs in increments of 500. So, if you’re wondering, we have manufactured 4,500 units overall and have 390 in stock.
So it appears that only 1500 (of 3000) copies of edition 2 of Superman were produced as finished units. The additional 300 copies just announced will bring that total to 1800.
