Be of good cheer, Genius. If I'm reading the current page correctly, Amazon has both new AND used copies -- with only a penny's difference in their prices. My hunch is that there's not a penny's difference in the actual books, either, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks, Preston. DYING to get your book but CF's shipping is so beyond the pale that I can't do it. Glad to see I might have a better shot through Amazon.

Regards!

Nope, spoke too soon. Since it's actually still from Creature Features, their shipping is still $25 U.S. to Canada - almost the same price as the book. And maybe I'll get grilled over the coals here, but A BOOK THIS SIZE DOES NOT COST $25 TO SHIP!!! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I will never get this book, it seems. F$*%&%&%&%&%*%*!

Sadly, it does. This is Matthew, writing from Creature Features with a note on shipping. We addressed this some time ago but you may have come to the thread more recently. Details below:

We understand that the international shipping fee is hefty, but I'd like to clarify the actual costs.

First off, Preston's spectacular book is almost 700 pages. The package will weigh somewhere between 3 and 4 pounds.

I'd urge anyone interested to go to the USPS website and check out shipping prices for themselves. First Class international shipping for a four-pound package is $38.95. Priority shipping is $47.45. Media Mail is not available as an international option.

We're using Priority Mail flat rate padded envelopes, which cost $24.75, the exact amount we're charging for international shipping. We add zero handling charges and zero packaging charges - so we're actually losing money.

The one note is that shipping to Canada is slightly cheaper, but our e-commerce plugin doesn't allow us to differentiate between Canada and the rest of the world. I'm happy to offer actual-cost refunds to any Canadian buyers. However, do note that a four-pound package to Canada would cost $27.75 via First Class or $20.55 via Priority Mail.

If I'm incorrect about any of this, please feel free to contact me directly at cfeatures at gmail and I'll address it personally. Please know that while we regret the high cost of international shipping, it's sadly due to USPS' troubled finances and a spate of recent rate hikes.

Thanks for your interest in the book!
Matthew

Matthew, given my vitriol, your explanation is wonderfully professional. My apologies. I'm just so frustrated because I'm keen to get the book. Maybe at 700 pages I should just look at the book as being a $50 cover price U.S. and accept that. It's truly unfortunate regarding USPS's finances. Like so many other companies, it's the hefty management salaries that end up ruining these organizations. Canada Post is now going to be eliminating door-to-door delivery, in favour of community mailboxes. A horrid thought for the elderly, shut-ins, and the physically challenged.

I'll shut the hell up, find the cash, and just order the dang thing! It definitely sounds from all accounts that Preston and Creature Features have put a lot of love into this book about my second-favourite TREK film.

Thank you again for your grace in light of my, um... not-grace?

Heh, I had actually meant to answer you, too, and then got all long-winded with my praise and thanks. Not unduly, of course. Yes, I'm in Toronto.

Howard's so nosy, isn't he?

Just out of curiosity, what's your first favorite Trek movie?

Me or him? razz

AG: Toronto. Good. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. If you can do a somewhat simple favor for me, you will have my gratitude. In the form of the book. New, not used. Will contact you through proper channels.

"Me or him?" Which one of you said ST-TMP was his SECOND favorite? Hello!

"Me or him?" Which one of you said ST-TMP was his SECOND favorite? Hello!

I said TMP was my second favourite, only behind STAR TREK: THE WRATH OF KHAN. (Note that as a die-hard fan, there is no "2" in the original on-screen title of that film. I wish, wish the Blu-ray had kept the original theatrical print title screen.)

That said, STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE is the singlemost exciting film experience of my entire life. I've had many exciting experiences at the movie theatre, mostly as a kid, but "there is no comparison" (heh) to how I felt, at the age of 12, seeing my childhood heroes on the big screen for the first time. Their names writ large, that explosive Goldsmith main title, the awesome Klingon cruiser, all of it. And if that film could hold the rapt attention of a 12-year old who wasn't bored for a solitary second, how can anyone truly say it's a boring film?!? And as I get older, there is a depth of meaning that grows with each viewing. God, life, our place in the universe, my place in the universe. All that cheesy good stuff. smile

The book is absolutely worth it... I picked it up in person at Creature Features during a recent trip to L.A. Three weeks later and I've still got a couple hundred pages to go! It's one of the most comprehensive looks at the process from start to finish of a major film like this. It's interesting how candid everyone quoted in the book is about their jobs -- obviously (35 years ago) in the age before social media and instant info they were willing to open up without much apparent fear of ticking anyone off or hiding too much.

Thanks, Accidental, for filling in that blank. (I guessed right.) And for sharing your golden memory of ST-TMP!

Oh, forgive me! I recently had a natal anniversary and guess I'm starting to get more + in the 55+ community I inhabit. --Which is quite remarkable since I vowed never to join a community that would have me as a member.

Carry on, Dr. Methuselah! razz

This is a fantastic book but too heavy to carry around. I tend to read it at night before going to bed. Any possibility of a Kindle version? I apologize if this was mentioned before. Thank you.

Allow me to add my voice to the chorus of appreciation for this book! Worlds of insight into one of my all-time favorite science-fiction films (and scores). If I have one quibble, it's that my eyes have trouble with the somewhat glossy paper stock. But for a read this compelling, I'm persevering! smile

Dear Wedge --

And all my other eloquent and enthusiastic fans --

Why not add your voice to the growing chorus initiated by Howard over at Amazon and write a Reader's Review?! The more the merrier, and the sooner the better, so we can get the word out to the general populace at large!

The populace will thank you for drawing their attention to RETURN TO TOMORROW --

I'll thank you for keeping my dream alive -

And, V'ger will thank you!
