Bruce, I am composing an e-mail to you so we can stop clogging up this thread, but I will state somethings here.

1-Elmer Bernstein is one of my favorite composers, but I like his later works better than his earlier works (the exception is The Ten Commandments). I am listening to Krizterlands FEAR STRIKES OUT/THE TIN STAR CD as I am typing this (and I must be 1 of few, since you still have them in stock and you have complained that they were not selling). Yes, I do own some Kritzerland CDs. As for DRANGO and SUMMER AND SMOKE, never really like those, plus his jazz scores do nothing for me.

2-I do not see how you are missing that your quotes I posted above are about INTRADA! We know who you are talking about! So, I do not have to back it up since it is obvious, since they are the only ones who have changed their release policy.

3-You say I am singling you out? You are the only one posting these comments!! So, yeah, I am singling you out. As I said before, Doug and Roger do not post here like you do.

4-Fun? You say I wouldn't know fun if it hit me in the face? I know fun but it is obviously not your type of fun! Can you please give me back the 6:27 minutes I spent watching Outside The Box Episode 1?

I wasn't so sure about this, and I admit that I was hoping for either a Herrmann/Hitchcock box or a Herrmann at Universal box set, but just because of the low quantity alerts, I decided to buy it last night, although I have some of the soundtracks already. I just figured that I would treat myself this Christmas, although I don't know if I'll ever spend $200 for a box set like this again. I'm sure that it will be great.

I am confused on why people are saying that they wish would be more affordable.
I guess you would rather pay the $360.00 for these scores to be released individually?

No, but they would rather have the option of paying $20 each for some few of the scores.

It will happen, someone will re-release some of the scores individually.

Go away. Really. You're composing me an e-mail (which I look forward to) and yet just for fun you post your comments anyway, just to get a few more unnecessary and useless and pointless digs in. Check. If you didn't think Outside The Box episode 1 was fun, there are about 4,000 others who would completely disagree with you, so there's that - one can't please everyone. You have no sense of humor, I'm afraid. And yes, my little fun things were directed at Doug and Roger, who understand that they're fun - pity you, unlike them, don't - and, BTW, they do the same to me and somehow I think that's fun, but then again I DO have a sense of humor. And it's fine not to like Summer and Smoke, but it unfortunately shows that you do not like prime Elmer Bernstein - fortunately, again, there are thus far over thirteen hundred people who would disagree with you. And no, you are not one of the few who bought Fear Strikes Out/The Tin Star - there would be about thirteen hundred others who joined you. Having a couple hundred left is fine by me, as they trickle out every week and seem to make folks happy. As I've said repeatedly, had we done only 1000 of that or Summer and Smoke, they would have sold out in a few days.

And funny - I don't seem to have received the purported e-mail - I do hope it's coming soon, though. Should I hold my breath? After all, I'm elderly and can't hold my breath TOO long smile

I hope I'm not out of line when I say this, but:

Can everyone just please stop fighting and try to enjoy this? This is an amazing release, and for those who did order it, I hope that you all enjoy it. I know that I will, and after listening to some of the samples, I think I've made a very wise investment, and I'm sure that everyone else who has bought the set would feel that way too, although we'll all take a big hit in the wallet...

I only saw an accusation that was untrue - should we let untrue accusations go without comment? I think that would not be a good idea. So, talk to Mr. Donovan who made the false accusation and who, when asked, could not provide one word in this thread to back it up. No one began this but him.

And yes, this is a magnificent set - I've known it was coming for a long time - even for those who have most of the material, it's still good value for money for the new things. For anyone who loves Mr. Herrmann it's a little bit of heaven. On the other hand, in this economy, it's very understandable why some folks can't pop for it. That's the only downside here. It's simply a lot of money to spend at one time.

Turmoil in a Herrmann thread? Seems fitting, actually.

I believe Varese's website is temporarily down. I can't log into it.

Bruce,
No, we shouldn't let untrue accusations go without comment. I guess my frustration is with people like him, who do that kind of thing to stir the pot and just get everyone bickering.

As for turmoil on a Herrmann thread, I know all about it. I posted a simple question asking if anyone on the "Talking Herrmann" forum at the Bernard Herrmann Society web site was on Facebook, and some people chose to attack me, in addition to the very concept of Facebook and social networking itself. All of this for simply asking "are you on Facebook?" I was just trying to get to know people, and the hostility towards me really wasn't necessary. I will say, though, that there are a lot of good people there, who did come to my defense and who I am friends with on Facebook.

^And pay $220 plus $13 shipping instead of $215? Only as a last resort if it sells out before the Varese site comes back up. But thanks for the tip.

I know! Really annoying. By the way, the box was down to about 87 units the last time I was able to check, but that was hours ago now.

FYI, as a fellow grouchy Californian who doesn't like the tax, I did
a side by side order at SAE & Varese - the SAE was 40 cents more......sold!

Asked what was up with the Varese site being down. They said that it was out of their hands; their host is down without any explanation and it's being worked on as we speak.

It could be from the massive ordering... LOL!

Chris -- As I posted on the Herrmann board at the time, your post about Facebook was perfectly acceptable and at least offered a new topic other than all the self-promotional garbage that gets posted on there. Unfortunately, people who don't know how to log into Facebook felt the need to insult you because you obviously got joy out of something they didn't get joy out of.

That is one of the tragedies of the internet -- that people have to put down that which they do not themselves like or understand. While this part of human behavior existed long before the Web, it is quicker, easier, and "safer" for people to attack you in Cyberspace than up close and personal. Sometimes I think people get mad when they see other people having so much fun (as in learning about and ordering the Herrmann box) that they have to attack other people in order to try to lessen their joy.

If somebody is thrilled about the idea of a "Friday the 13th" box, I'm not going to tell them not to enjoy it just because I'm not interested in such a release. I'm glad there are so many other interests out there -- otherwise all the things I care about would be sold out before I had the chance to order half of them.

I guarantee you that no matter what you tell people you enjoy, there will be some people who will tell you that you're a jerk and an idiot for feeling that way. I can think of a few of them who seem to make a living out of that on the Herrmann board. This is simply because these are VERY unhappy people who have nothing to personally elevate their own lives, so they instead resort to insults to try to lower you to their own subterranean level.
