Bruce, No, we shouldn't let untrue accusations go without comment. I guess my frustration is with people like him, who do that kind of thing to stir the pot and just get everyone bickering. As for turmoil on a Herrmann thread, I know all about it. I posted a simple question asking if anyone on the "Talking Herrmann" forum at the Bernard Herrmann Society web site was on Facebook, and some people chose to attack me, in addition to the very concept of Facebook and social networking itself. All of this for simply asking "are you on Facebook?" I was just trying to get to know people, and the hostility towards me really wasn't necessary. I will say, though, that there are a lot of good people there, who did come to my defense and who I am friends with on Facebook. Stirring the pot - exactly right in the case of that fellow. He was true to his word and did e-mail me, though - I wouldn't say it was exactly a nice e-mail, just more of the usual accusations without owning up to the fact that his accusation in this thread was incorrect. He did say I was the most "conceded" person he's ever known - except, well, he doesn't know me, or apparently the word conceited.

Chris -- As I posted on the Herrmann board at the time, your post about Facebook was perfectly acceptable and at least offered a new topic other than all the self-promotional garbage that gets posted on there. Unfortunately, people who don't know how to log into Facebook felt the need to insult you because you obviously got joy out of something they didn't get joy out of. That is one of the tragedies of the internet -- that people have to put down that which they do not themselves like or understand. While this part of human behavior existed long before the Web, it is quicker, easier, and "safer" for people to attack you in Cyberspace than up close and personal. Sometimes I think people get mad when they see other people having so much fun (as in learning about and ordering the Herrmann box) that they have to attack other people in order to try to lessen their joy. If somebody is thrilled about the idea of a "Friday the 13th" box, I'm not going to tell them not to enjoy it just because I'm not interested in such a release. I'm glad there are so many other interests out there -- otherwise all the things I care about would be sold out before I had the chance to order half of them. I guarantee you that no matter what you tell people you enjoy, there will be some people who will tell you that you're a jerk and an idiot for feeling that way. I can think of a few of them who seem to make a living out of that on the Herrmann board. This is simply because these are VERY unhappy people who have nothing to personally elevate their own lives, so they instead resort to insults to try to lower you to their own subterranean level. You're right. I've had more than enough people tell me, specifically and particularly online, when they don't have the courage to tell it to me personally, that I am just out of my mind, that I'm an idiot or someone who shouldn't be taken seriously. I've met a lot of people like that, in other areas of life, and at times I did let it get to me. I never ever come on film score forums or any other forums to engage in self-promotion, except when it is necessary, such as for my blog. Up to the point where I asked if people were on Facebook on the Herrmann board, I don't think, as far as I know, that I ever talked about things other than that which related to Herrmann and his music. I never once told people on this forum or on any forum that they're stupid for enjoying what they like, or for disliking something. In terms of scores, I have my favorites, and then I have scores that I don't particularly care for, such as for horror films. Does it really matter to anyone that I don't like scary music? Should I be ashamed of the fact that I consider myself to be a fan of Jerry Goldsmith, but yet I cannot stomach the scores to the Omen films, simply because merely listening to them is enough to shatter my heart rate? I'm sorry that it has gotten this way among people on this forum, and on other forums. I've tried as best as I can to be civilized, and I will continue to do so. I never ever get mad when I see other people delight in their "holy grails" finally being released. Admittedly, if it's something that I had hoped would come out, but did not, it's disappointing, but I would never try to come on a message board and make disparaging comments as a means of spoiling the fun. I admit that I was disappointed that the Varese release was not a Herrmann/Hitchcock set or even a Herrmann at Universal set, but like I said, once the supplies were running out, and considering the magnitude of this release, I had to act. Money is tight for me too, and after I went ahead and bought this, I really started to feel guilty that I had spent all this money on one thing, all in one place. I know that this is going to take a big bite out of all of our wallets, but at the same time, I feel that this purchase will be worth it, even though I already have some of the scores that have been released. I thank you for being among the people who did support me on that thread, and I really appreciate everything that you do in terms of not only keeping Herrmann's music alive, but also all film music that needs to be preserved. I know that all of us here do, and we are all in your debt.

As for an apology, after your last post, it will never come becuase you still do not see it! I have taken one bit of your advise and only one! I just put you on my ignore list! Erik

@Erik You're wasting your time with that guy. Let it go. Everybody in a clear state of mind can see, he is a nut. Time and time again. Thanks Leland, lesson learned.
