I'd just like to see Doppelganger. That, space 1999,and ufo is why I've been a member for so many years. Feel like financed DOPPELGANGER CD with membership fees.

Not sure it would be within Fanderson's ability to release that one; I'm pretty sure it falls outside the ATV/ITC properties that are covered by their merchandising licence with ITV (it being a Universal film?). I'm sure someone will try and do it one day, presuming the tapes exist. I'm sure I read that the Barry Gray Estate has some of the material in varying degrees of quality, but whether those cues are from the actual master tapes, I'm less certain.

Disappointing. Ill stay a member until I see hear otherwise. Cant wait till the 50th anniversary UFO,SPACE 1999 Year 1 and 2 releases remastered with new artwork and more music.

But dont they have special relationship with gerry anderson estate? They did sleeping astronauts which is about 3-5 minutes or more. Done as fan gift. It came from somewhere.

No, they don't. Their relationship - as I've said before - is mainly with ITV, and if you did Doppelganger, I presume you'd have to deal with Universal anyway, regardless of where the tapes come from, for licensing reasons. There's no reason I suppose why one of the specialist labels couldn't do Doppelganger... (and no reason why Fanderson couldn't, if they ever managed to do some sort of deal).

I've no idea how 'Sleeping Astronauts' came about (as it is from Doppelganger IIRC), but I assume that one sort of 'slipped through' as Barry Gray had the tapes. That was first released many years ago on a vinyl EP, before tv music started getting the releases that it now does. Not sure that would happen now.

If they couldn't do the two Thunderbirds movies (hence La-La Land's doublebilll), I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to do Doppelganger/Journey Far Side Of The Sun - maybe La-La Land?

Mmm. This would be a clincher for me too. I got the wonderful cds for UFO, Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons this year, joining Fanderson where spreading the cost was part of the deal, and not too bad for those of us in the UK. Already have as much as I feel I need from the Fireball XL5/Supercar soundtracks they released one oned cd and original Space 1999 Season 1 both via a friend some years ago, and same goes for the Silva Joe 90 release. I don't see me being too bothered about Four Feather Falls or Series 2 of Space 1999. Though I wouldn't be surprised if I changed my mind AFTER I let membership lapse, knowing my luck!

Doppelganger would be great.

It's likely they've already released what they could. Not to mention that that very few episodes had complete scores...

VINYL MAN is dreaming, there is nothing missing, Barry Gray only composed these few episodes and the same for Year 2
These cds are PERFECT and if you want to wait 2025 for another edition, hum GOOD LUCK ! and while you wait i will enjoy theses cd in the present.

What bugs me : people who are never satisfied , these cd are 99% perfect !

Yes, I very much doubt there is very much missing, and if there is, it's probably because it's lost.

As far as the Space: 1999 Year 2 set goes, I think there might be one or two very small cues (a few seconds) that might be missing, but it seems to me as complete as it can be.

Regarding the mono cues on the latest Fanderson set, I find them quite hard to listen to - they don't have the fidelity of the cues on the Wadsworth promo disc, which was also mono (and might have used the same tape source?). The rest of the discs sound great; the stereo mixes - for me - win every time.

I have a Promo Album from the club 'Sleeping Astronauts- 21 Tracks of Adventure', from around @ 2004. Doppleganger is not on there and the album name comes from a UFO track.

What album are you talking about?

It’s a fun funk track that is unused and highly recommended.

So far, the best score (imo) is “One Moment of Humanity” because of the jazz-funk leaning that reminds Bob James’ One (1974).

Fanderson sent promo gift to members in 2004 21 tracks. They did no sell it due to licensing issue. It was cd. Not vinyl.

Try track 15 sleeping astronauts. Not credited though but from Doppelganger.

Maybe it was reused in ufo and thats the loophole.

It was in last 5-6 years. Fanderson sent promo gift to members. It was cd. Not vinyl.

Not quite, actually. Many years ago (I think it may have been mid to late eighties) they released a small vinyl EP (as a membership item ISTR) and I'm pretty sure this cue was included on that. That was at a time when music releases were still a long way off (and still considered virtually impossible).

It's quite a nice score anyway - very melodic and less brass-orientated than some of the other cues. I'm not overly convinced that there is a similarity to Bob James other than a very general 'fusion' sound, but I'm glad you like Bob James' early albums, coz so do I smile

Years ago I wasn't that struck by the jazz-dance bits (I still think the dance routine between Bain and Leigh Lawson looks rather silly in the episode...), especially the cue based round the Gino Vanelli song. But these days I rather like them.

What do you think of the mono cues, Thomas?

If you mean the 'Sleeping Astronauts' CD, I think you're getting a bit confused. The vinyl EP was a very early attempt at releasing some Anderson related music and was probably sourced from Barry Gray's own tapes. I can't remember what the other tracks were now (apart from the main theme from UFO) but it was a very short vinyl sampler and has no real connnection to anything that Fanderson did with CD's later on (much later on, actually...)
